retail bike business seems to be a mighty rough way to go. Average joe consumers like myself am trying to save bucks, buying used, online etc. more and more, trimming already slim margins for the local guys. Hopefully all the new guys have seen something in their market research that I haven't and it just means that the Vancouver cycling industry is on a major upswing. Can you say GIVE US A WORLD CUP!!!!
I too have heard the local rumours about Manitou, I'm sure they realize that their BC market share would probably vanish rather quicky if there was no nearby service/warranty center (apart from Summit). Same goes for Magura, having to order brake pads from the US was a pain. When I needed a new caliper in Nov. Obsession had one for me from Orange in a couple days, and pads too..
I almost want my 40RC2 to crap out so I can have it massaged by the OGC crew. although those online manuals and videos are pretty slick.
PS the link at the end wasn't there, and there's a couple words missing. (ok the link is there, but the words are still missing, 2nd paragraph last line)

Kind of like those mags you get at the grocery store, but it is not that Paris Hilton dumped her dog...
it is actually true.
Good article Cam!

I can already speak to the benefits of OGC. My DHX-C was not working properly, dropped it off to have it worked on an got the normal response for the one week turn around. Got a call two days later and my shock was already fixed.
Not only are these guys really easy to deal with they are quick too. I haven't got the shock back on the bike yet, but based on all the good stuff I have heard about OGC, I am sure it will be spot on.
On a side note, the OGC workshop looks like they mean business and they seem to be pretty stoked with the new Fox setup.
Change is sometimes good, maybe not right now if you are a Manitou fan.
Cheers

Good luck with your North Shore Bike Shop, Matt. I checked out your site and it looks like you have a couple differentiators to your business model that hopefully will reap rewards. I'll come check you guys out when you open up.

Nice to see someone on the Shore carying Transition. I'll be checking out NSBS for sure....
Good article Cam
Industry shake downs are good in the long term for the most part. I am sad to see OGC not being able to play with all my Manitiou forks but in the long term OGC made the right move going with the new direction.
And Lu at Obsession loves Manitou and can dial them just as good as OGC. so for people like me who only have/love Manitou we are not left in the dark.

Rumours of a bike shop in Abbotsford called Bike Brewery. Chris Glew and Tyler Klassen are involved but I am not sure of the official capacity.

Bike mag sounds to be headed downward.
First they loose Steve Casimiro, then Rob Story and now Mike Ferrentino.
The quality of the writting these days in the print mags is weak sauce.

That's why I tend to read the Brit one's. Only time I buy the local version is if their is something I absolutely like.

Thanks for the support everyone! I look forward to serving my fellow riders and keeping you on your bikes (and getting you on new bikes) every day!
Fire me an email at info@northshorebikeshop.com if you were thinking of Transition for this year and let me know what you'd like to see in the store - just putting together my order now. Same goes with all the North Shore Bike Shop's brands - Jamis (http://www.jamisbikes.com/), GT (http://www.gtbikes.com/), Rotec (http://www.roteccycles.com), and Yeti (http://www.yeticycles.com/).

Should be cool!

I heard it straight from the horses mouth, an un-disclosed friend (formerly) on the manitou team
I heard the same thing about manitou about a month and a half ago.

It opens Saturday March 3. I'm definitely looking forward to having another bike shop out here. Especially one that is open on Sundays!
I expect Bike Brewery will be very supportive of the FVMBA, which will be great!
