Do you need to get in shape? Are you training for an event? Or just itching to get out on some XC trails?
Whatever your need - we have the solution: NSRide in conjunction with Different Bikes is offering Bike Bootcamp. It's a 16 week program of Sunday XC rides on the North Shore and Squamish. Whether your goal is to race the Test of Metal or simply improve your fitness while having a blast, this is the program for you. Each session includes a group XC ride targeting specific energy systems, skills and terrain. We also provide weekly cycling, training, nutrition and racing tips to help you get Fit & Fast by summer.
Bike Bootcamp starts February 11! Check out www.nsride.com (http://www.nsride.com)for the complete schedule.
NSRIDE is a mountain biking club based on the North Shore. They offer group rides for every level of rider on a weekly basis throughout the year. It is a non-profit organization run by a dedicated group of volunteers, supported by Different Bikes, that aims to provide a supportive and social network for cycling.

Quality idea!
Is there a "I got lazy and fat over Christmas" category?

LOL!
Ina & I are thinking about it, I guess I'd be joining you in that category...

So am I - but I may need a special subcategory of "yes I'm into it, but sorry dude, Whistler just got another 50cm of fresh"
oh and since I converted my hardtail to a singlespeed (I won't be using a v-tach as an xc training machine), I guarantee I'll be the guy everyone hates in this group.

Okay, we're signed up.
It had better friggen be sunny this Sunday!
Okay, I guess we need to get heart rate monitors, what models does Different Bike carry and how much?
Edit: Since we have signed up with the club, discussion moved to NSride's Yahoo group.

Sounds like a good reason to buy another bike...
I'm sure Noel would let you borrow the Endorphin tester until your new bike comes in.

Polar mostly, also we can get some cool stuff from Suunto. (that have things like integrated GPS tracking etc, so you can download and plot the exact spot on googleearth where on bonk hill you keeled over...)
How much? The basic ones from Polar can be had for $100 or less in some cases, really skookum cycling specific ones like S720i or S725x run to $350 plus.

Thanks for the info. With the Bootcamp suggesting a HR monitor I'd imagine you will be selling a bunch of them.
I also asked a similar question on a couple of boards here:

Sounds like Polar is the brand to get. I have a Garmin GPS already so probably don't need that function.
What is the NSRide club discount for DB (we looked around on their site last night but didn't find it listed)? Do you have a selection of monitors in stock, does either store have more?

I wrote on the Gear board
My wife and I just signed up for the NSRides Bootcamp and they are recommending using heart rate monitors.

I'm real curious as to why they recommend that you purchase an HRM. Not that it isn't a very effective training tool (it is), but what will they specifically use it for?
Use that as a guide for the features you need.
Do they want you to track your HRM data over the course of the bootcamp (downloadable data)? Are they advocating heart rate zone-based training and setting you up with a plan (settable HR zones)? Or is it as simple as wanting to know your max HR so you can pace yourself during long races/training sessions without blowing up (basic HRM)?
Can someone from NSRide answer?

Thanks, I looked for that page last night but didn't find it.
Any idea how I get the membership card mentioned on the link above?

I got my membership card online here: http://www.karelo.com/register.php?BID=258&BT;=10#Ev3902
but you have to pick the actual card up at Different Bikes.
The HRM is recommended, but you don't absolutely need it. We'll be starting out by discussing the training zones and the benefits of each zone. The easiest way to find your training zones and target those zones during training is with the use of a HRM.
There are other physical symptoms that allow you to recognize which zone you're in which will also be discussed. You can use this to train without a HRM, but you just have to be much more aware of what your body is doing at any given time!

Thanks! We registered on Karelo last night, we can pick up the card at DB next time we are over that way.

You should get an email confirming this though. I registered on the 3rd and got an email on the 4th saying I could pick up the card on or after the 5th. It takes a few days for "processing".

Yup. It takes few days for processing (someone has to go to the shop to drop the membership cards off). Meanwhile, you can print out the karelo registration as your proof of membership.

Hey Ken,
Is this 16 week program something where you can miss a couple of sessions? I think it's a great idea, but you guys are competing with my new B2s and a record snow season in Whistler.... Trying to figure out if I can have my cake and eat it too.
