View Full Version : The Cove adds a NEW store....
Cove Bike Shop
02-01-2007, 12:57 PM
Coming mid february the Cove Bike Shop is pround to announce the opening of a new store!
Located right at the base of Mount Seymour this shop will focus on rentals and repairs together with the standard services of a fully functional retail bike shop.
For years our loyal customers have been begging for a more central location to the heart of our trail system and this new shop will allow amazing access to take full advantage of our much expanded rental and demo program for 2007.
The new store is located at 3728 Mount Seymour Parkway right next to the Bean Around The World (In the old North Shore Credit Union location).
Stay tuned for opening day and more details!
Its going to be an epic season....

Couldn't have picked a better location, IMO it's long overdue. Throw in a coffee bar like JH and you'll have a prime pre/post ride destination.
Awesome, can't wait!
*edit*A complete shuttle whore mall. *edit* I'm as excited as an LG to hang around it!

Solid.
Now we will have coffee, a beer and wine store, pizza a bike shop and riding all in one location.
Smart location to open up...People are going to be lining up between laps to have their gear fixed.

oopsy, I didn't actually pay attention to the fact that the Bean was right next door.
I don't think I've ever driven past the turn up Seymour on the Parkway so I didn't know the Bean existed in that location.
But that makes it an even more stellar location.

A bike shop at the base of Seymour. What a great idea! http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=87040
Great for all riders - more selection and easy to compare demo bikes, and keeps us honest by pushing great service and fair prices.
See you all at Seymour in a few weeks. Different Bikes North Van opens March 1, Jeff and team will be there daily filling the shop and getting ready for the season starting in mid Feb. Right between the liquor store and the A&W in the Parkgate mall.

I don't know why Cove ever moved out of the old location, and if they're shutting the old shop down, that's truly sad.

I'll bet that the property value had something to do with it.
My guess is condos with retail on the ground level.

isn't there like a 5-10yr moratorium on building on gas station sites, AFTER the tanks are removed?? doh..

speaking of condos...
I heard that the building where Bean is is to be torn down this summer, as the property manager wants to build the typical Vancouver building there (lowrise condo with retail on ground floor). What I heard was that everyone in there is on month-to-month and only Bean is on term (till this summer) at which point they were going to do the demolition...
Cove Bikes, any light to shed on this? Because of your tenancy, are they reconsidering? Or are you only in there temporarily for this year?

isn't there like a 5-10yr moratorium on building on gas station sites, AFTER the tanks are removed?? doh..As far as I know, it's 5 years, so if there was going to be development on the Deep Cove site, then it would probably be 5 years down the road at the earliest.

No, there just has to be a full excavation, testing, and if any evidence of leaks there needs to be a site remediation.
Gas stations often get shut down, then totally rebuilt into a shiny new station in less than a year. They only do this when the old tanks leak.

its been a roaring success....I am sure they will be back at the same location....that building is ugly anyway. Anyone remember when there was Church's Fried Chicken and Macs there?
I remember when the original cove WAS a gas station....its a cool place to have a shop. Too bad its going to prolly be torn down and some lame building put in its place. First the savoury and all the low rise buildings on the left side of Gallant, then this. Someone should take it over - even though the building is nothings special, it gives the cove character.

The character that the "oldness" of the building gives Bean is what draws me there. I mean the newer Beans are nice... the one on Granville close to 52nd I think it is... is nice but it is still all new.. not as cosy!
Oh well all in the name of progress I guess... I'll still go there so they won't lose me. Bean is more addictive than crack!
The old Cove shop is really cool, in fact it was the first stop on my trip out here back in 2004.
Going to miss the "small town charm" the building has, Deep Cove is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.

yeah I like the floorboards and stuff - but they put that in there, it wasn't like that before. It really is a bad 70's box building. I hope something suitable goes in.
re: the Cove, they keep knocking down stuff and putting up buildings, like the Pavliks 3 story building (ironically Mrs Pavlik is head of the deep cove heritage society........) - chaz MUST be pissed about that - the thing cuts off part of the view from his house - and they leave that horrible block of 60's apartments above the pizza place - too bad its privately owned - that thing is an eyesore and a shithole - I used to live in one of the apartments for a while until I couldn't stand the bugs, and the smell of pizza grease...

Have you been to Kits in a while, they are ripping everything down and putting up what Larry Beasley called "The next great expansion in Vancouver, now that Coal Harbor and Yale Town are filling up!"
We are going to see the low rise, 5-6 stories, more in some cases pop up all over the city. They are trying add density to the city while maintaining the old Store Front environment created from the older buildings.
To see a really good example of this, take a walk down through Arbutus Walk... at Arbutus and 12th I think it is. They did a great job there! Too bad I can't afford to live there!

I would like to say ,that i'm not a Local, but I'm GLAD to see that the original Cove is staying put ,and that they are expanding to a location closer to the trails. I visit Vancouver atleast 1 time a year. I make a big point to visit the COVE and the bike shop.As you can tell by my screen name I ride a Cove G-spot and have for the last 5 years. This year I'm bringing friends along to experiance the SHORE, and plan on showing them the Famous Deep Cove Bike Shop. My wife will be their tour guide of the city as she is from Vancouver, that is why we visit every year.Again I'm always looking forward to visiting and riding in the Great White North.I hope to meet alot of you on future visits, and by the way ,compared to the vast majority of you I'm not a good rider ( do not do super skinnies and high one either)., but still like to ride alot of the stuff out there!!!. I have ridden with Smoke a couple of time as he was my guide to the shore and his company.Keep up the hucking and se you this Summer.

whats the point of having two stores in the same General area? are you not just splitting your costermers in half? you will have half the people coming into your store and twice the rent to pay? does not make sence, unless you are planing on getting rid of one of the stores you already have.

They should start a club or something, like a Cove club, and you'd pay $50 annually and get a bunch of shuttle days in the green bus
do they even sell stuff at the old shop anymore? The last time I went in there it was a ghost town

The storefront is really small and has very little in it. Most of the store is a warehouse for Cove Bikes. It is also the office for Cove Factory Racing.

Screw that... Get a liquor liscense serve beer at the shop... then it would be the ULTIMATE pre and post ride stop... not to mention the mark up. shop techs would probably just get wasted all day though, maybe not such a good idea.
