View Full Version : Nicolai revised
So, I wanted to change a few bits of late and now its pretty much together. Its actually a fair bit lighter too now since I went UST!
Changes include:
Rock SHox Totem Coil 1.5"
Thompson 1.5" Elite X4 stem
Mavic 823 UST on the old Hope Pro 2 rims
SRAM X-O shifter & rear mech
PUSH'd Fox rear shock
Pretty happy with the end result too! :)

such a sick build.
I had some 66 SL's which caused me nothing but problems, I popped the Doppio vlave within a month of owning them, plus set up issues (never got them feeling right) and they were a pain in the ass with setting air pressures etc.
My girlfriend has some Totems on her bike & so far they have been great, basically everything the 66 were not, so I was keen to make the change.
I have taken a bit of a gamble with the reliability as they are still a new fork, but as yet I have no complaints :)
don't like them. but still...seems to be a thought-out built.

Nice work C.
I really dig the improvements :)
Got any idea weights now with the new set up?
Give us some ride reports and pics as soon as you can!
Also maybe a comparison of the rear shock compared to the air?
Booner
Should be out on it today to see how it feels!
It was 36.6lbs with the air shock & everything else the same, I don't know what the coil weighs over & above the air, maybe 1lb or 1.5lb?
I expect it to be in the region of 38lbs, but feels lighter due to the wheels, i've saved so much weight it feels like a different bike!

i love thoes frames
i love thoes frames
imo the only thing that is cool about the frames is their logo. i had one and it sucked. did not like it at all. was too flexy, they changed the frame design tho.
right now the bikes are built with some highly sophisticated engineering skills. Kalle Nicolai is a good builder. But a bit too techy.

C, I hear ya on the lighter wheels making a big diff.!
The bike feels like a little play bike that can be tossed around with ease with light parts :)
Mic, you must have had something wrong with the one you road or it was an older/proto version. These new frames are anything but flexy :)
Not sure why you think this frame is too techy..single pivot...doesn't get much simpler than that!

i had an original ufo. the seatstays have no bracing between them and rely on the shock for lateral support, therefore they do have a bit of flex - moreso than a braced swingarm design / something with a swing link (like a bottlerocket). i didn't find it detrimental on the trail, however. it was a fun little bike with great build quality.
that st looks great, btw
