I have an opportunity to purchase a new 2006 Stinky at my LBS for a really great price. The frame is a 16.5". I couldn't find anything on Kona's website regarding sizing for 2006 bikes, but the same size in a 2007 Stinky is considered an XL. We actually measured from the seat tube to the steer tube (center to center) and it was 22". This would be my first real downhill/freeride bike for the whistler bike park.

I'm 6' tall and about 175 lbs with average body proportions. I rode the bike a little outside the shop and it felt ok on level ground but I'm worried it might be too big for the bike park. Any input/advice would be appreciated.

The XL(16.5") should be right on the numbers for you...

Generally for this kind of bike it is much better to go on the effective length of the top tube rather than the seat tube to determine size. You already have the idea, even though it sounds like you are using the actual TT measurement, which can be a bit misleading depending on the geometry of the rest of the bike. I'm 6'4" with really long arms and legs, and anything much less than a 24.5" effective TT feels really cramped. The Stinky in general runs a bit smaller than I like, but the XL should suit you just fine.
