Neds Atomic Dust bin: Thumb tack's or some other little nail maybe a Carpet nail or somthing similiar. Strewn in the faster spots of the trail and this isn't somthing that falls out of somone's bag! There were Carpet tack's strewn after the first Rocky step down section about 500 feet into the trail. And a few in the middle spots and one smaller grouping at the bottom. Friends and I cleared as much as possible. Happened awhile ago, end of summer or so. No pics as I don't carry a camera for such incidents and I fall alot so I don't want to break it:rolleyes:

Saturday Jan. 25
Mystery DH on Cypress
Found multiple man made obstructions...
1) board with spikes in it half buried after small bridge crossing creek, totally blind.
2) HUGE bolder rolled onto trail on blind corner, with large branches blocking route around it
3) destroyed the skinny plank bridge across creek near end of trail
4) all kinds of older deadfall scatered all over the trail, NOT natural deadfall.

This is getting sick. Time to get the North Shore News involved and give the jackass some media time.

A file with the West Van Police has been created. Please post ANY incident/injury that is a result of trail sabotage on Cypress. This is a serious matter, so please post only relevant information.

Information will be forwarded to the Constable handling the case.

well...this is kind of sketchy to post so nobody take it to heart cuz its not for sure. but me and niggz believe we saw the guy yesterday...

we rode cypress, and came down stupid grouse (we think...the trail is sort of gone now due to houses) and we were down at the bottom of hte mtn right above the freeway. we came out of the bush and an man and a woman were getting into their car, giving us a very odd look. the car was an older jaguar. once they got in the car they just stared at us while me ad nigel figured out where to go. then they left, and we noticed POODLES IN THE CAR! we heard the guy has poodles? then nigel said "tats the trail nazi" but by the time we put it together we had driven off and we couldnt get his licence plates.

so basicall im just sharing this, it probably wasnt him but it certainly fits the description. we didnt get any signs of trail sabotage tho, so this info is just about the guy himself.

i dunno if this helps at all but if somebody can clarify if that was him, reply here or pm me!!!

For those that have been injured or affected by ANY deliberate trail vandalism on Cypress Mountain, REPORT IT.

The West Vancouver Police file # is 03-1181, and the officer handling this is Constable Carrol.

False reports are as serious as the offence, so don't abuse this information and make our efforts to end this any more difficult.

Do these people think this is a game or a f*cking joke? They are deliberately risking someone else's life for no reason except for their own shallow pleasure/payback(?).
It's really hard to keep faith in mankind when things like this are happening. I hope all of this gets resolved in the best possible way (handcuffs) before any of us have to have a REAL brush w/ death. I mean, don't these people know that we beat the living crap out of ourselves w/o their help? Isn't that enough?!?

Sunday December 19th on the biking trail between the boy scout camp and the access to Baden Powell off Lilloet Road a large wooden board with large nails sticking out of it was on the path.

The injured was not a biker but one beautiful dog who suffered major puncture wounds and a severed tendon on one foot.

the owner will contact the police.

oh man, that horrible, sorry to hear about the dog. Was is definitely sabotage? Could it have been part of one of those signs that says "danger, rifle range" (which are now painted blue)

I had a look today. Some fuckhead has cut the supports and removed a large section of the bridge. I cannot see a rider doing such a thing even if he or she disliked the stunt for some reason. I usually refrain from using profanity in my posts but this type of thing really pisses me off.

It wasn't us, we built it.

We put that in to span an area where the ground water seeps out of the trail year-round. We thought that a suspension bridge might be a little more enjoyable than just another ladder bridge.

thats pretty weird, I mean with all the built stuff on Neds and the massive erosion, you wouldn't think someone would bother sabotaging one little suspended bridge thing

too bad, that was a fun ramp. Can it be repaired?

OK, so I guess it's been confirmed. I met the culpret on Old Forks Monday night. He was packing a 10 speed up the trail and 2 dogs just for good measure. Watch out, he seems to be dragging trees across the trail again. Slippery and diagonal.

A group of us rode Mystery DH (Old Fork) and Stupid Grouse Sunday morning, May 8. There were at least 12 sections where someone had moved fallen trees across the trail. Some were large enough that 2 to 3 people had to have moved them. In a couple of cases they were placed immediately under drops. We removed them all, but they will likely show up again. Don't these people get it that it won't deter biking there, but could possibly cause a serious injury. I wonder what they would think if a young kid was injured badly because of them. Mountain biking on the Shore has recived a lot of publicity lately, both good and bad. I wonder if those people that get a chance to speak to media or Councils, etc., can get this message out to the public.

I think the mindset of these individuals is that if someone does get injured badly enough that responsibility will fall on the city and trails will be closed to bikes with heavy enforcement to save their ass in the future.

Depending on how you count them, there were 12 to 25 incidents of branches laid together across the trail, rocks lined up across the trail and large rocks scattered in the riding zone. It started a little above above Big Stupid on Ladies Only and continued almost to the end of Quarry Court. Most of the vandalism was on Quarry.

There were 2 of us, so it didn't take much to clear off the trail. Often we rode over the obstructions before stopping to go back and remove them. We also found an empty Coke can which we carted off for the refund. :)

Much the same as Sunday, a minute above Big Stupid branches were laid across the trail and rocks were lined up across the trail. I didn't ride Quarry Court so I don't know if it had vandalism as well.

While not a serious hindrance to riding, I wonder if the perpetrator knows that they are contributing to erosion by causing people to ride around the obstacles, widening the trail in the process.

Please remove any obstructions you encounter so we can prevent widening the trail.

July 8, 2005. Ned's. Two separate occurences of logs placed across the trail, one before a small drop. Nothing super large, maybe 2-3" in diameter, but spanning the entire trail and not naturally occuring. We spotted them easily and removed. No pics sorry.

How high off the ground were these? That sounds like lines being blocked off by the builder to me. Were there obvious built up ways around these branches?

trillion
07-08-2005, 11:10 PM
A foot or two. Didn't see any evidence of building nor were there any alternate routes. Wish I could describe the locations better but I've only been on Neds a handful of times. I know, it doesn't seem very likely out on Neds but somebody put the logs there, trail nazi or not.

Was up at Fromme last night , ran the pipeline , was good for the most part but does need some patch work here and there . Anyways we linked up to the " Quarry court trail " and " rag doll " and somebody had blocked sections of trail with a line of big rocks and tree limbs . It didn't look like it had been used for awhile . Wasn't sure if it was somebody tryin to sabatoge it or what . But its a good fast stretch and could be awesome for some drop offs or bridge stunts . Anybody know anything about these kinds of things happening on any other trails ?

Yeah i hit the " quary court trail " and " ragdoll " a couple days ago , and rocks had been piled across in a few spots and a couple large limbs , i got some good speed down them . After i hit the first pile i stopped and tossed the rocks to the side , kept my eyes open the rest of the way through and cleared the others aswell . If Idiots think they are gonna discourage bikers runnin through the trails ,they r dead wrong , the sport is still growing and more will come . :announce: NO MATTER WHAT .

I cleared off several instances of nazi-work on Quarry Court today...the usual...branches across the trail (one was even wedged in by two trees so it wouldn't move when hit), and rocks piled neatly in a line across the trail. Can't we all just get along?

TIGGRRR.....
09-22-2005, 01:30 PM
the sabotage may be from some of the anti biking people who live up near there , i think most of the riders i have come across on fromme anyways , are not from that area , some people just wanna cause shit because they have nothin better to do or bitch about . who says people have to grow the fuk up ..... Anyone who will take the time to sabotage the enjoyment of others is just a prick . I can understand when the less than respectable riders out there leave there garbage , are rude to residents , or just bein idiots are feeding the anti crowd . But they will learn eventually i hope . There are always bad apples in every bunch i guess .

Last night my brother and i were riding down Sexboy and we stopped to check out a section of trail.

we found two at least two big handfuls of broken glass in a 5 meter section. the pieces were anywhere from 1/2" to 4" long, and of varying thickness. they were mostly semi-buried, and one big chunk was wedged into the side of the trail. totally deliberate. we removed everything we could see and i kept a bunch of the glass as a souvenir.

keep your eyes open!

Same old same old. I was JRA and saw deadfall across the entrance and further down rocks were lined-up across the trail. I don't normally ride Quarry Court, but did this time, stopping briefly to clear off several lines of rocks across the trail.

Quarry Court is a nice easy way out. I'd forgotten about it until the Trail Nazi brought it to my attention! :P

That is a problem. You need to slow the hell down before you pass people on the trails. Make it a point, especially if you're sneaking up behind them. Nobody likes being startled, especially if they're out for a Sunday walk in the woods. Not only that, but our bikes are basically 2-wheeled 4x4 trucks. The tires kick up a lot of dust and it sucks to be a hiker and inhale that shit.

My friend and I were sessioning the skills park between the North Road Trail and Dead Moped out on Burnaby Mountain last week and after hitting the skinnies a couple of times, my buddy blew his rear tire. No tubes with us, so I decided to get the truck and load the bikes and head for the shop. In the time it took me to get the truck, my buddy had picked up at least 20 nails all sprinkled near the end of the stunts. He then showed me the rear tire which had a massive (3") nail protruding from it. I say trail nazi... there were too many of them and I can't see anyone of our kind being that irresponsible as to leave a bunch of inconspicously placed rusty nails near the end of a stunt after working on it, right?

Friday Dec. 7th on Cypress. Riding the Cherry, Roach, Roach hit. When you get to the creek there is a bit of a cement culvert where the creek goes by. 2 rocks removed by somebody causing my friend to endo & go over his bars. It was obvious that they had been moved by man & not nature. We put some rocks back in the hole to prevent someone else from the same fate.

Rode Pink Starfish today (May 25). Me and my bro found tons of shattered glass and nails (some 6" spikes sticking UP out of the ground) towards the lower end of the trail. It was around the area with the older ladder bridges (one of which is a side hop off a skinny). Take care out there folks!

Charge those bastards who are doing this to the trails. It's no longer a motion against mountain biking when people are exposed to dangerous feats INTENDED to hurt PEOPLE....ridiculous..
