anyone tried to access clear creek hotsprings (http://www.nwhotsprings.net/clear_creek.htm) in the winter?

friend's just got a land rover, seeing as it's gonna be crusty this weekend we thought a drive a half way down the logging road east side of Harrison lake and skin up to the springs might be good.

also anyone know what the drive is like along there?

Friend of mine was up there in the late spring....He said they aren't logging up there anymore so access was getting sketchy. It is in a pretty high valley so I would assume there is quite a bit of snow. If you are going to go for it, I would suggest a couple of shovels, a come-along, and a good set of tire chains.

Used to be a really cool place.

Used to go up there way back (7 years ago?) before the cabin got burned down. It was a pretty boring trail in the dry other than the last climb and a little bit of fun in the snow but that depends on your truck too. I would not consider going in there alone. I would also not consider going in the snow without some other capable trucks/drivers. And just because it is a Land Rover doesnt make it good off road. It depends on how the truck is equipped. I remember going in there with a group of stock D90's, that was the slowest, most boring trip ever. They just couldnt do it.

When going somewhere like that solo........

Back up plan= long walk out (about 50 km to harrison) and costly recovery bill.

I've actually seen a dude in a unimog up there stuck.......really stuck. I was going up, he was coming down. Good thing he had a hydraulic winch with a long cable on it. Once he was out, I took it as an omen and turned around.

Up in Fort Mac, you're stuck when you've pulled down every pinner alder around you and your winch line doesn't reach any farther. Big westcoast trees are way better.

hahaha, thats so true... those treese are toothpicks, just as easy to drive right through as they are to pull right out.

24th? oh no.

the website (above) and the little old lady in tourist info ( a while back) reckon 1:10 hour up the logging road

anyhoo. it's 50km of logging road, which is deteriorating rapidly, including one bridge ride around. 2 hours easy, in my book. we turned back 10k before the springs, as we'd reached our preset turn around time to allow us to head out during daylight. I wouldn't recommend it for a day trip from vancouver. was a fun day for the new car tho, nothing lost.

picked up some great jerky from Deroche. mmm.
