View Full Version : [nbr] new vehicle

so we decided it was time for a new vehicle. this time we wanted something a tiny bit bigger and more rugged than our vw golf. We were thinking a subie outback...then something caught our eye. now we can shuttle, even on the moon, and well, can bring bikes, boards/skis, and even our car in the bed of the truck.

ahhh the american dream!

edit: no, we did not really buy this. umbullit sent me a link to this and I could not resist making thread. :)

yeah see, that only got 5 gallons to the mile so we went with the smaller, more eco-friendly 2 gallons to the mile version.

easily the best means to shuttle eagle mountain. I am confident that I can drive through the gate now though on any fire road so perhaps I can help the pay-for-shuttle business model and race the huckwagon? j/k

who here wouldn't like to pull in to the sexboy lot on cypress for a shuttle in one of those things just for kicks?

seand
12-08-2006, 12:34 PM
We pulled up in our golf with 7 bikes on it and 7 people inside...surely something of this size would have been more comfy...of course, we would have to fill the tank halfway up to the sexboy lot rolling in the f650, but at least it would be rollin' in style.

The ford, I would almost admire someone for not giving a shit that much, it is hilarious. If you are gonna get a polluting truck you might as well go all the way and instead of tickling the atmosphere just fuck it into submission

Haha, ridiculous.

At the same time, air travel burns an exorbitant amount of fuel and creates absurd pollution. But most people that fly halfway around the world for a 2 week vacation manage to avoid being branded environmental terrorists.

Don't get me wrong that truck is fugly and I wouldn't be caught dead in it. I just think the double standard is a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, but when you split the distance covered, the fuel wasted with the amount of people on the flight, it's not so bad. Planes travel quick, so exhaust per hour will be much higher, but exhaust per person per unit distance is probably reasonable.

3 class boeing 747 (capacity 416) X let's say 85% full = 350 passengers
cruising economy = 5 gallons per mile
so cruising MPG = 75 MPG per person

This doesn't include takeoff and climbout, where engines are at full throttle and burning fuel at 2 or 3 times the cruising rate. How much this is mitigated of course depends on how long the flight it. Obviously much more significant on a 2 hour flight than a 12 hour flight. Still, its pretty good MPG considering the average car on the road gets 20 mpg and probably has 1 or maybe 2 people in it.

Cars (in north america anyways) have fairly stringent emissions controls, whereas a plane dumps exhaust straight out sans catalytic conversion.

I guess I don't really have a concrete answer on anything here. I just find it interesting that cars get a bad rap, but people still feel good about air travel, buying imported food, etc.

Set a new trend at every corner. Traffic will stop. Jaws will drop. Envious stares will fuel your every turn. And trendsetters will scramble to play catch up with you. Life's good when you're calling the shots.

well you definitely can't be talking about Unimogs, great clearance and one of the best off-road because of their brute size and weight, not trails but bogging and such.

well running over greenpeace activists is giving back to the environment; whether you do so in one of the above posted trucks, or in a biodiesel jetta :)

Is your Jetta on straight fat? Or is there some place to buy biodiesel in Vancouver?

God I want a giant truck running on deep fryer fat. I may just put an extra fryer in my work kitchen just for that.
