Okay, I know this is the Photo section but bear with me.
Im borrowing my friends Panasonic video camera with lots of bike footy from the summer. It uses the little discs. I have little blue ones made by fugifilms.
I need to get it on my comp, but when i check the disc drive it shows empty or it freezes? Whats wrong? Lots of people use DIgi cams so PLEASE HELP.
Do I need download softwhere. The women at Futureshop said, "put it in your computer and it works". But it doesnt?
Any suggestions, comments, corrections?
ANYTHING
Please answer fast.
Mike

nevre used mini dvd so donno
if ur using a casette or mini dv tape u need either a usb of fire wire to conect to ur camera or a capture drive but i doubt u have the funds for a capture drive.

you have to validate it or something, there some format change that needs to happen before it will show up.

Have you tried the Panasonic website, to see if you can download their 'editing' software - you should then be able to pull the footage from the camera/DVD, then export it to something your usual editing software can work with.

there might be a firewire port in your camera, it probably says DV next to it, if you have a fairly recent computer you will most likely have a firewire port in your computer. You will need an editing program to get the footage off the camera but by the sounds of it you have that.
Good luck.

hmm... heres a simple solution to your problem, how about you call up panasonic, or call up your computer manafacture. Or better yet, you should ask Steve R what to do.

Actually, the quality is shit. It encodes MP2, and you lose a ton of quality.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that your DVD drive can't read small DVD's. It is probably a hardware problem, not a software issue. How old is your computer?
Chances are your camera also allows for USB capture with the proper wires. Usually this takes some proprietary connection on the camera side. Probably something like this.

This is not as good as capturing with firewire, but since you just want to get it on the computer, it should get the job done. Just make sure you read the manual and get the right wire. I would be surprised if it didn't come with the camera.

If it's on the computer, you should simply press the record button on whatever cable you are using and it will save the files. Viewing doesn't necessarily mean you are saving, just look how you have it set up and see where teh files are being imported too.
