Time for a new bike but I'm between the Preston and Bottlerocket. I'm leaning a towards the Preston but an extra inch would be good for the "just in case" situations, also, the low standover on the BR looks nice too. Only, I don't ride slopstyle and don't think i will be able to ride the bike to it's potential. Plus I don't want to look like a poser; intermediate rider with such a sweet ride. For the record, I do a lot of shore and park riding. Nothing huge
Also, what do you guys think about pairing either bike with 04 Super Ts?
thanks

First of all, don't avoid getting a bike because it makes you look like a poser. I always look like a poser, but I love my bike, that is the biggest thing, get whatever will be the most fun. Nothing wrong with having an extra inch, and heck, if you will put 7" up front you might as well make it as balanced as possible. The bottlerocket may just be the best choice.

bottle rocket is pretty cool, but if you do any amount of climbing I'd go with the preston as it has a longer seattube.

Haha! I was just in the same conundrum.
Riding buddy went with the '06 Preston, and I went with the '07 BR.

so is that pretty much the main difference, that the preston is climber and the BR not so much? I've read the reviews for both but wouldn't mind hearing some feedback from people on the board, less biased I think

Have you had a chance to ride both yet?

Back in August I was considering both bikes so I decided to ask the Transition guys directly, here´s what they said:
Sounds like the BottleRocket would be the ideal bike for you. It is
basically steeper head angle than the Preston FR and shorter chainstay
and lower bb. Basically this results in a tighter feeling ride. Whereas
the preston fr feels more DHish than the bottlerocket. The Bottlerocket
feels a lot snappier. The bottlerocket is a more nimble bike in general
and is a far better bike in the air and is more easily trickable.
There ya go.

Yup, but not extensively. Just enough to know which one I want. BR feels 'funner', and that's most important to me.
I picked her up for racing. The courses here in Korea aren't like the courses there at home. Basically smooth, non-technical, pedally yawners, with a couple man made hits thrown into the mix. The R9 is too big for here, I'll save her for home.
We sometimes race on hardtails here, but those couple of hits are just enough to slow you down/hurt you on a hardtail. Bottlerockets 140mm is perfect.
Front end is pretty much the same geometry, only half a degree difference between the two. Running different, or adjustable forks, will negate that.
I like how the BR has 1.5 headtube, so I can switch my forks up. Preston's is standard.
I also liked the shorter chainstays on the BR. Makes it easier to float on the rear end.
I'll run a 410mm Thomson seatpost, to get the length needed to climb while trail-riding, and drop it for playing/racing.
I should have her built within two weeks, or so. Going to run either my 888SL, or the Lefty 140mm I have sitting around, or switch between the 2 depending on if I'm playing/racing.
I should be able to build it up prety light, I'm stoked!
