... Has anyone seen these in a bike shop?
Yes, BSP has both the X0 and X1 on the floor.

Hey Cheryl,
general question about the Reign X, I´m planning on buying the X1 and change many of the stock parts to make it more freeride-oriented. Do you think that, in case it´s set up properly, the Reign X would be a good Shore / Freeride-bike, or would you say that the frame itself etc. is not capable of doing jumps etc. and has a too climbing-oriented geo?

Oh it's capable of taking all kinds of abuse and we already have some guys out here jumping them on some very technical jumps and riding technical trails on it. Giant slackened the head angle to 67 degrees compared to the 69 on a standard Reign.
It's a really great choice for anyone looking for an all around lighter freeride bike.

I've been riding my X zero for almost three months now up at Whistler (before it's season ended) and on the shore... by far the best 'do it all' freeride type bike i've ridden ever. Slack angles, amazing suspension, nice n'light and ISCG 05 mounts. It's a thing of beauty. Buy one, you won't regret it.

ACK.....you guys are killing me...I decided to pay bills instead of a new bike and am now kinda regreting the decision, I want that damn bike..sigh...
Skywalker...hows it climb?

It climbs amazingly well. The Maestro design lends it to climb well as is but with the advent of the DHX Air 4.0 shock with ProPedal, there isn't a hint of bob - even when set up super plush.

If yours is still close to the stock X0 configuration, how much does it weigh? Have you put it on a hanging digital scale?
I've heard 32.0 lbs for the size L X0...

I've changed a few things to suit my needs a little better - I ditched the front deraileur and threw on a E.13 SRS guide and put on some 2.5 Highrollers. Everything else is stock. As is it tips the scales at 33.2lbs but out of the box, dead stock, 18" size it weighed 32lbs even.

Skywalker, that sounds awesome! Would you mind posting some pictures of your Reign?
So you said that it´s the best "allround"-freeride bike you´ve ridden so far? Good to hear... I´ve been looking for a "nice-looking" SX Trail for a few months now and it seems to me as if I´d found the perfect bike.
One more question though, what type of trails do you usually ride on the shore and in Whistler? Do you do lots of climbing etc. or do you also ride very technical trails like for instance Sex Boy, Pangor, A-Line, Dirt Merchant etc.? If you do so and claim the bike is fine for doing that sort of riding, I´m gonna order one right away. :-)
One general question, how neccessary do you guys think is it to get a new rear shock? It comes stock with a Fox DHX 3.0 but I´m still debating whether it´s worth the cost to upgrade it to a DHX 5.0. I honestly don´t care about the ProPedal, however I´m not quite sure if the Bottom Out Resistance is a worthy upgrade. Any thoughts on this?

ED......
No camera at the moment but I'll see what I can do.
I ride all over the lower mainland of Vancouver (including the trails you listed)but you'll usually find me on the more challenging trails of Cypress or Fromme when Whistler isn't an option. I ride the Reign X very aggressivly but I'm smooth with it. It's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. I'll ride it on the same trails I'd reserve my DH bike for with an equal level of confidance.
As per your shock question... I suggest riding it as is. It'll probably suit your needs just fine. If you find it lacking, simply upgrade later.

Any1 know if there is any significant weight difference between the X0 and X1? (yeah I am dreaming).

Depends on what you consider as "significant". I think the difference is pretty close to a 1 1/2 lbs.

I read in another thread that these bikes have a really high rear shock leverage ration .... is this true??
I am thinking these bikes might be up to the challenge now.

Does the stock bike come with single ply tires or dual ply? just curious for the supposed 32lb. stock weight.

This is what I got for the leverage ratio for the Reign...not horrible...not great...
Giant Reign X1
6.75" Advertised Travel, 2.35 Stroke.
6.75 / 2.35 = 2.87234043
2.87:1 Leverage ratio

About the same as a yeti 575 and not quite as good as a Transition Covert. But really, leverage ratios change through the travel from what I understand....meh....

indeed. I might order mine tomorrow =)
One question about the shock thing... (I´ve never owned a full suspension bike so I´m totaly new to this area):
The bike has 6,75" of travel with a 2.35" stroke.
1) So that means that the shock moves only 2.35", but due to the leverage ratios it ends up being 6,75" in theory?
2) If I were to buy a new shock for that frame, I´d have to pay close attention to the dimensions. However Fox doesn´t offer any version of the DHX 5 that has those dimensions (6,75*2,35), and according to their website they don´t even produce those for OEM use. Might sound stupid, but does the Reign X have such special dimensions that basically no aftermarket shock will fit that bike!? I can´t imagine that this could be the case, however it seems to me as if it is... But as I said, I´m a total n00b so I´d be grateful for any help.
I believe the shock size is 7.875 x 2.25
With 6.75" of travel the leverage ratio is 3:1

Bah...dangit...I tried...heh...
Oh yeah, I was browsing another forum and a guy from the UK posted the weight of his frame.....
"weight 3800g with headset, seatclamp, dhx air. size medium"
That is ~8.4lbs for those who are metrically challenged. So, with a DHX coil the frame should weigh around 9.4lbs. Based on that information, I'd think that the out-of-box weight of 32lbs is with single ply tires.

Mudpuppy.... you got the leverage ratio bang on. It's 3:1.
The weight of 32lbs is with the stock, single ply Hutchinson tires on a medium sized Reign X zero.

Nah...I had it at a different Stroke Poser had the 3:1 ratio.

Skywalker,
just wondering about the rear hub spacing? I assume a 10x135mm rear hub should work, or am I wrong?
