I really dont care how big and obnoxious your lense is, how special your man purse is that you carry your gear in or even the amount of pixles your camera captures. Its whats in the picture that counts, if your going to post pictures of your camera/gear atleast show us some photos taken with it. :fu:
In all seriousness though, when you photo guys are taking pictures during a race or even just people riding in general you should stand back a bit, and please dont use your flash its annoying as hell.. I cant stand it when some dude is standing next to a trail or race course with some huge camera getting in my way.

Ross why do you want a 85 1.4 ? Just curious.
Unless you are spending a lot of time shooting Portraits in a large studio The length as a prime is kinda dumb for sports.
Your 80-200 will be just as good for portraits and way more versatile in the sports (Or any for that matter) arena. If you were in a position to shoot events, the length is still really long... Anyway.
I would say that a fast zoom in the wide-telephoto range would suit you more and you would probably be happier. (Ie 24-70 2.8)
If you are going to invest in a fast prime get something in the 28-35mm range. If your shooting concerts or something dark inside, you'll want to be way closer than 85mm X 1.6.
The 600mm is a bitchin lens, but really a 400mm with mulitplier would be a more versatile setup than having monster glass...and unless you are shooting Surfing, Football, baseball or your neibours daughter through her window (If you are, you know my email... ) 600mm is way to big. Besides the huge ticket price.
I would say there is other gear to get firs before the 85mm prime. Just my 2 cents.

if you know whats up, you get a wide-zoom (12-24) , a telephoto zoom (70-200), and a 1.4x extender.
anything more is a waste... (unless you REALLY need distance)

after that.. i just wasting money on toys anyways. i want low fstop cuz i hate flashes..
and then a 24-70 or somthing??? I dnno.

depends on what you shoot, and what focal multiplier your camera is, also with a 1.4 extender it only works on certain lenses.

well technically, the body is only a film holder and contributes nothing (fundamentally speaking) to the sharpness of the image.
I agree with you on the lens issue, however, many leica knockoffs still use the leica mount.

the 85/1.8 is amazing, i love it.. i shoot quite a lot of portraits and i've done a few weddings... its brilliant. Oh, i do gig photography too and that little bit of length and speed is really handy sometimes! I think the 135/2 could be a bit too long for my tastes.
i'm not wanting to save money, this is why im buying a leica... and leica or zeiss glass.
The sharpness won't be as good lens wise, and the bodies won't be as quiet sadly... if they were i wouldn't be buying this setup!
oh, and the 35/1.4 is sexy.. i'd prefer the 35/2 though as the bokeh is stunning on that lens.

never, none of those commie lenses come close to modern leitz glass. its just a fact. with those russian lenses you dont have consistency either, one may be suprisingly good and the other 3 will be dogs. their sharpness is not just as good and if it were true dont you think leica would be out of the lens business long ago?

The 85/1.8 is a simply awesome wonderful lens. Some of the best bokeh you will ever see... and I agree with your statement about the 135mm. I think it's a bit long for most things. Especially if you're shooting a DSLR with a >1.3 sensor crop ratio.

yeah bitch its awesome! I've tried voigtlander lenses and for the prices they're awesome! I've got a loan of a colour skopar 35/2.5 for a month until i can get a decent lens in Jan/Feb!
im personally wanting a leica 35/2 and a zeiss 50/1.5. But thats like a grand of glass!
I am going with a 28 50 90 135 kit to cover everything. should be easily attainable except for that 50mm summilux!
i was looking at that zeiss 1.5 but it only close focusses to about 0.9 m and the newer leica 1.4 goes to 0.7 . you can find the pre-asph version for about $1000 used but there goes your lens budget!
