The Western Canada Wilderness Committee is trying to close wilderness areas around Sooke to mountain bikers.
Tell the Capital Regional District that you want to keep the trails and the wilderness open for everyone.
IMPORTANT - you need to reply by December 1.
Check out the details (http://www.nsmb.com/shore_news/sooke_closure_11_06.php) and fire up those fax machines.

The link to the pics of the trails wasn't working... is there another link?
As for the Western Canada Wilderness Society - I know (knew) one of the members. 14+yrs ago we shared a house (with several others). I recall the days of "Stumpy" the stump they dragged all over the world (until they couldn't afford to pay for it's return to Canada so they left it - somewhere in Europe).
Ahhh those drug filled days...(not me actually). I was living there when the Canucks almost won the cup.
Not any help I know.... but the past always comes back to haunt ya...

ps. thanks for posting this up guys.
well it is not the western sooke wilderness comittee, it is the western canada wc. I believe the shore and surrounding area are in western canada. Every riding area is at risk. Sooke is a good testing ground for them. It is one of those things people think will never happen to them. Not in my backyard, then.............
it is too late.

It's a shame that we couldn't get more notice on this. I've been dealing with
the sierra club nazis for years here on Kauai. They don't care about the science,
nor do they care about other people that do not follow thier view exactly. They
don't like mountain bikes because they are "unatural". Horses are ok even though
they weigh so much and do mor damage because they are "natural".
Just because Sooke isn't your "backyard" doesn't mean you should care and
try to help. There is some awesome riding and great people there that deserve
to have trails to ride too.
