Parks board staff, in consultation with park users and local residents, have prepared two concept plans for the planned $350 000 upgrade of China Creek. One proposal will result in the demolition, relocation, and drastic downsizing of the China Creek skatepark - a piece of Vancouver history, and one of the most chill, friendly places to ride in the city. A final public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday to review the two options on the table before they go before the Park Commissioners for approval, and it's vital that stakeholding riders attend in a show of solidarity.
Compare the two concept plans for yourself:
"Option 1", which retains the existing skatepark: http://vancouver.ca/parks/info/planning/chinacreeksouth/pdf/ChinaCreekSouthParkOption1_Oct2006.pdf
"Option 3", which replaces the existing tub and bowl with a playground, and radically downsizes their replacement: http://vancouver.ca/parks/info/planning/chinacreeksouth/pdf/ChinaCreekSouthParkOption3_Oct2006.pdf
This meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11th @ 7:00 pm at the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, 800 East Broadway @ Prince Albert. For more information, please contact Michel Desrochers, Park Planner, tel.: 604-257-8529, e-mail: michel.desrochers@vancouver.ca
