View Full Version : Shore Trails that flow.....

The Shore trails keep on changing. Every time I ride a trail I haven't been on in a while I am amazed at how different they can be and sometimes I barely recognize them.
So the questions are: What is your top ten list of trails that flow? and how would you rate it? (green, blue, black, double black etc.)
The ability to flow a trail depends on the rider of course but some trails seem to have it already built in. :)
This list will be good for people new to the area that want to tune their experience to their own style.
Cheers,
JdanS

Pile o Rocks is definitely one of the best trails on the shore. We're talking about good hike-a-bike routes right?

Actually I was hoping for a list of trails that flowed based on the opinions of the great people we have on the BB.
Hike a bike is OK as long as it is over before you start coming down. :)

Funny you should say that, since I think the SSC has about the best flow out of any place I've ridden. Pick a trail, any trail.

it's a difficult question to answer. a trail that has great flow for one person may suck ass for someone else. i think a lot of riders don't fully understand what flow is. if i say grannies has great flow a lot people would say i'm crazy.

Exactly. I was apart of discussion recently on how 'flow' is such a subjective term. Flowy for one person is probably too challenging for some while being too easy & boring for others. It definitely makes for an interesting post-ride discussion if there are people in the group in each of the three categories.

Yeah I know. That is what I said in the original post. What flows for you make be a battle for someone else that is why I suggested the ratings as well.
So if you say "Trail X" Flows for Green riders then beginners would know they could have a good time on that trail.
Likewise if you say "Trail Y" flows for Double Black then you know it is going to be tough if you are not riding at that level.
And if "Trail Z" doesn't flow under any conditions then maybe you ride that one when you want to be punished. :)
Thanks for the contributions!

Pile O' Rocks by far.
I had my flowiest Fromme experience one wet day on Starfish. It's not usually my favorite Fromme trial (ok, sometimes it is), but this day I was effortlessly floating over the chunder, total control, going real fast, my mind was in another dimension. Total Zen. I haven't been able to re-create this feeling on Starfish, though I've gotten it on other trails at other times. Flow is a wonderful and elusive thing, it can be an almost religious experience.
Where else has it happened? Kachess Ridge, somewhere in Sedona, Gargamel, got it once in Moab, Palisades, Cypress in general brings it out. Night rides can really have that flow feeling, even on a trail that is usually so-so. I guess it's more about me, riding with someone who's on the same page, feeling good physically, being focused mentally, riding hard without stopping and getting a serious groove going. You get to the bottom and the only thing you can say is "wow".

I agree with the statement that "flow" is a personal thing. Most trails that you've done dozens of times really begin to flow. 7th Secret flows like nobodies business for me.
I would have to put my vote in that pipeline is pretty flowy right from the getgo.

That rockface section that seems to go forever and ever...you can jump from one section to another and haul ass down the rock and at the bottom, despite being a drop to flat, it is quite smooth...every time I come to a stop after that section I cant help but have a HUGE smile on my face.
good call!
edit: all those little jumps and such are also quite flowy. Not to mention, if you are a sender, there is brutus to help shrink your balls a bit :)
