When: This Sunday, Feb 13th, @ 11am.
Where: Meet at Pinewood Elementary in Delta BC
There will be a BBQ to follow provided by the great staff at Krusty Cycles aka Caps Richmond.
Come out to support the rebuilding of the Shed. If you've never been out to the Shed, there's no better time to familiarize yourself with the tight little network of trails and the people who know and support them.
Any questions regarding this please pm me or email at ashogunnamedmarcus at hotmail dot com
Future trail dates are as follows but could be subject to change:
Sunday March 6th @ 11:00am
Sunday March 20th @ 11:00am
Sunday April 17th @ 11:00am

another great turnout and a successful day at the shed. even tough we didn't spend time building jumps or stunts, these type of days are the ones that will allow the shed to survive for a very long time. props to those who showed, brett and crew, KRUSTY'S for the mad eats and everyone else who picked up a shovel or moved some dirt. THE KING THANKS YOU.
PS i stink like burger meat:D :D :D

Can I get a hell yes?
May I also direct your attention to this (http://bb.nsmb.com/newforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54160) for info.
If this is an April Fools' joke, its twisted and not right to play with our fragile bike needs like dat.

naa, i was goin to head up north to see my brother because i have not seen him since christmas, but two days before we were about to leave my aunt died and i was to make a choice, go up there and be alone (i do not know that side of the family) or stay here and hit the shed, outdoor shore and maybe the north shore. But i told my boss about this and he said that i better just go, but i decided to stay and go biking!

Hey people,
I'm still working on the website and she's almost done.. I'm still in serious need of trail day pictures, pictures of riding around the shed, etc.
please email pics to kinskofer@shaw.ca or send me links to pics online, preferably not on pink bike as they stamp their pics with their logo.
thanks.

yes.. I did. Actually I know Dave, so I'll get the pics off him directly so we don't have any pink bike logos attached.
I'll use those on the home page I think.

Yeah i checked everything and no damage that I could see. But that doesn't mean it's going to stay that way.
Heres an email Brett is sending out to all members in case anyone is wondering whats going on.
On February 23rd between 9:15 and 11:30 am, somebody has found our tool stash spot in the stump on the side of Stairway. Al called me immediatley to notify me that all of his tools as well as his backpack had been stolen.
The only tool left was his axe, which was holding a rather eerie note into the log, it read:
The curse has begun
We don't quite know what to make of it, other than some nut job has been hiding in the bushes watching where Al has been stashing his tools. Al puts more time and energy into rebuilding our beloved trails than anyone, he deserves notes of thanks and new tools purchased for him, not what has happened.
I strongly recomend everyone who is riding in the Shed to thouroghly look over all stunts before riding, as this is could be the same person who was sabotaging trails a couple years ago.
Please don't let this deter you from your usual rides and trail work.
If you see anything suspicious going on in the Shed please take notes and notify myself immediatly. I will be opening a police file with the Delta Police regarding our stolen tools, and the creepy note.
Thnaks, Brett Armstrong

I was inna shed this morning continuing the work on stairway... got the tranny for the hard line in... might have to make it a little higher/steeper... we'll see after the kicker/drop is in.
Mike the Teeters look good but we may run into problems with the tallest one, it seems to be twisting or bending a little bit off line. I think it probably happens when someone bails off it. It may need to be re-enforced down the line.

I won't be making it to the next trail day so I thought i would throw out a couple suggetions/ideas to you. We should make an effort to beautify the trail. If you step back and look at it as a non rider it is really visually unappealing. Three things I think we should focus on:
1 narrowing down the trail, it's 10 or more feet wide for most of it's leangth. We could use logs and branches or even rough in some low ( 12" high ) barriers to try to keep people to a narrower track. The little barriers would be easy, just puond in a couple posts and nail a thin log or branch to the top.
2 We should transplant some ferns, plants, shrubs etc from in the bush to the really beat areas along the trail. Especially along the connector where we have those wide mud areas on the sides and in any other areas along the trail where we have narrowed it down and have beat up areas.
3 try to educate riders ( difficult I know ) to keep to the trail when sessioning stuff and going back and forth and turning around., and to tell people that when they fall off a stunt to stay as close to the log or whatever as possible so we don't end up with a 20' wide dead zone around all our log rides.
I think this would go along way to improving our image with other park users.

GEtting a bone marrow transplant march 22, going back in the hospital march 18, then I have to be there for 4-6 weeks (i'm shooting for 4!).
Then I have 100 days of going to the hospital twice or so times a week and VGH monitoring me closely, but I'll be getting stronger and stronger and hopefully be back on my bike riding fairly seriously again by may or june :)

Damn, yesterdays trail day on Fromme was without a dumbout a hell of a turn out and it was an awesome trail day too Mmm burgers and free bike shirt. 150+ people were there. Is the metal bending or the wood itself on the tallest teeter on Stairway? Also when are we gonna re-build the drop on Goats? Well it would have to be a rolldown i'm guessing but if anyone knows plz post. I acctually wouldn't mind building it myself if I get the okay. Also what are the rules for ladder bridges height to width ratios. I wanna building a massive rolldown with the choice of a drop to a huge table.

The metal is bending I think
I'm pretty sure the drop on goats will be on the agenda on the next trail day or maybe the last one in april.
Ask Brett he'll be able to tell you about hight width etc and also about the goat drop. you can email him at the shedbikeclub@hotmail.com addy or post or pm the shedbikeclub.com forum... his handle is redtape.

i love the step up idea on stairway. But i think we sould have on like the one at whistler.
Another thing is the rock jump at the end of goats, all those lil jumps leadin up to it should be taken out, i have gone as fast as i can, hucked as hard as i can and i still can't make them, i think we sould just flaten them out to what they were before.

The new step up to log to kicker gap is looking tight :thepimp:
After Al took off I filled in some mud holes and put some gold here and there. Also added some ferns along the connector so its not looking as beat. :P
i'm gonna be in there tommorrow for a ride so i'll check it out:D
On another note, would the person(s) adding that crushed rock to the lips of the goats jumps please stop. It doesn't compact and it doesn't shape at all, it more or less just pollutes the gold and makes it really hard to form. There is an area off to the side where i have been getting gold from and it's kind of covered up. Use that stuff if you need dirt, just try and remove any of the rocks and remember to cover the pit up

Good I'm glad it all works... you just never know until someone hits it up. ;) So the step up puts you up on the log no problem? That was the thing I was most worried about. It's hard to judge sometimes how much speed and kick will be needed. I know we're trying to maintain NARROW trails now, (no more twenty feet wide plant-less areas), but it's kind of a shame on stairway, because the area where the step up is really has enough width to put in two stunts right next to each other! That'd be so cool!
Shame we can't/shouldn't.

There isn't really room for another stunt there now... but there will be something going in where the gap after the stairway drop was but before lower simons ... no plans as of yet just a couple ideas.

I've already started to get lumber for a lobotomizer style roll down that will be going where that huge fallen tree is. After the roll down I want to build a massive table rather than a gap jump where it used to be. It would be rotated 180 degrees facing lower simons.

all good suggestions, but really do we need huge stunts on the trail, i mean this is the shed and all. for me flow and technical stunts are much more important than a huge pile of dirt sitting in the middle of the trail, i mean i'd like to hit huge jumps too, but lets leave those stunts to other places. what's most important is keeping the trail looking relatively natural and keep the damage we do to the surrounding areas to a minimum.
we should focus energy on what al said "beautifying the trail" not putting more stunts on it. the trail is getting pretty saturated with stunts and the area around staiway only needs a few little additions. So Al and Mike, since u guys are working on that area, maybe u should get together and discuss ideas which are pleasing to eye and benefit the trail as a whole for every rider. Keep in mind that i'm not dissing ideas but just making suggestions for future plans to our trail.

We should think about trying to get hooked up with some dirt, to build some dirt jumps in the little meadow off where the chute is (that steep little trail)...
Mike_Shore_rath
03-04-2005, 07:44 PM
The table that would be built would be from wood as opposed to a huge pile of dirt. It would be the same as the gap jump that I had built. But i'm down for narrowing the trails. I'll be at the trail day Sunday see you there. :D

i think we sould not do ne thing to piss of the city right now, lets try to get on their good side then approch them with the suggestion that we need a new "begginer trail" and that our trail are a little to hard for begginer bikers. If we get this, we can open up a new trail that could have a lot of easy stuff but also at the same time, harder thing off to the side of them. It is all about straigic plan to get the shed into a great area to bike in for everyone!
If anyone wants to plan out a begginer trail, i already have a great little map all set out! and stuff can be built off to make it nice and fun for us, the more advanced riders :thepimp:
i think that we are still a ways away from another trail, we still have more left on this first line.
And yeah, lets save the big jumps for later down the road down at the bottom. I like the idea too about keeping things low key.
Hey Flow, i forgot to mention last time i saw you but those ferns look great, it really makes the connector look good:D
And Al, that new line great, you should have seen the king hit it, but then again he is the king:o

As much fun as that sounds that I doubt the City would go for it and again, its not exactly going to make the area pretty, which is important, and at this point in time, isnt part of any trail plans as far as I know. Hmm, good point, that would take less work to do also. Well hopefully Brett will get the okay. Does anyone think there should be a small up ramp on stairway so you can skip the two big teeters for beginner riders?

Hey Mike, that would be a good idea if you were so inclined to build it, cuz i've heard from a few people that they would like to see an alternate line to get on to stairway cuz for them the teeters are a little difficult.
And Dave, i meant bruiser D sorry.

So just to add my list of seized or stripped parts - last night I go to take the rotor off my wheel I'm selling and the very last torx bolt head strips out.
So now, I have a headset stuck in reducer cups, a stripped and seized crown bolt in my 888 and now a stripped rotor bolt.
I cant wait to see what happens when I go to build the dh...
get some allen key head bolts for your rotors, waaaaay better if all you have on you are allen keys:o

put the bolt thats opposite the seized bolt and do it up snuggly. then on the seized bolt take the torx wrench and use a rubber mallet and hammer that sucker in there. it should be easier to undo. i had to remove a stripped bolt like that the other day and it worked like a charm. and like tool says get some allen bolts in there. much easier.
buy an easy out, they can come in handy

I'm looking into that Simon.
Also, Xtreme-newb pm'd regarding some newly built DJ's behind the firehall in the Shed. I've emailed Brett about them already.
i know brett is aware of the small one i didn't know there were more.
I'll be in there for a ride today, i'll be at the school at 2:15 till 5ish if anybody is in there
Maybe i'll have to take a look at these new DJ's and check them out for myself;)

meh they are ok, but the kids who are building them are digging serious craters, we mentioned to them to not do that but in the future, if and when anyone sees any unauthorized building make the shed bike club aware and we will deal with it accordingly.

Dont know if thats an option since Delta has given us the limits and boundaries of the Shed trail to work within for now. Essentially, anything outside of that is unauthorized from the get go.

interesting day in the shed, let's see where do i begin, well i wuz havin trouble stylin the hip (i guess fat guys have trouble moving in the air) so i was a little frustrated.
Riding with simon, he hit the hip and blew the berm resulting in a HUGE dent on his top tube, i think that frame is done.
the builder of the frankendrop underestimated the kick of the new jump/hump in the gun range and fully smoked the two metal protrusions that stick out of the ground, made a resounding noise which we heard from lower simons, he was ok tho just a little sore
it's amazing what u can see and hear when you spend a little time in the place we all know and love, THE DELTA WATERSHED.
just a little story:P

Its the open grassy area at the bottom of the trail once known as BM. You rode through it before reaching the lower access road. It used to be a gun range back in the day (30+ years ago?) and now it just looks like an open grassy picnic'ish area with a ring of logs and an old firepit near the road.
....and there are two steel sign posts cemented in the ground near the tree line where the trail enters the opening. They make a loud noise when struck by a mt biker.

I personally dont think anyone would blink an eye if they were gone.
I rode in there today with a hacksaw intent on cutting them out, but they are each 1/4" thick angle iron and it would be about 6" of cutting to get through one of them.

best way to get rid of them would be a gas powered cutter, like the ones they use to cut rebar, any form workers around?
anyways, ripped the shore today w/a couple of buddies and had a really good day. nailed air supply, the sideshow drop and rode the first half of jerry rig

I have already cut out the left metal piece with a hacksaw, that's right a hacksaw, only took me 40 min to cut it out :D I also put in a small ramp on Stairway so beginners can skip the teeters. Nearly 50+ people came by walking the trails/riding. I also told a few about the next trail day so we should have a great turnout.
