Alright - for those of you wondering about the doings of the Shed Meeting, I'll try to give a quick but detailed recap:

Inbetween roughly 60-80 people showed up which was awesome in my eyes. I honestly was thinking it could've been a bust - the best part was the amount of parents that came out.

Brett Armstrong gave quite the speech with some important political side facts re-iterated by Gary. For those unfamiliar with Brett, he's the Head Shed Head basically.

Delta Parks is actually working with Brett and Gary to draft the proposal to City Council in the form of a Land Lease agreement with certain stipulations for the Shed Bike Club to be held accountable for (to be finalized later). This should take some time but it'll be worth the wait. As Brett said, we would like to have trails that are above the limits of Resort Municipality of Whistler guidelines, ie the South Surrey Bike Park - essentially we want the Shed restored to the level it was at and possibly beyond :D

Also, Brett emphasized it and I'll reemphasize it - there is to be no new building in the Shed at this time at all. This cant be stressed enough. Delta is doing weekly checks on the Park and it can only be detrimental to us if something new is found.

I think thats about it - email me @ ashogunnamedmarcus@hotmail.com or Brett @ shedbikeclub@hotmail.com for more info.

Thanks :)

I'm planning on wednesday morning right now. I may be hooking up with a couple guys from the board( statix and Big Daddy ) we had a killer fast ride on friday. 7th/krikum to the first and back up for ladies and skull all in around 3 hours. If they hook up it will be 8:30 am at the gate. Otherwise I'll be planning 9:00 at the gate. Let me know if that works.

I have a front Hillrod laced to Formula hub (regular QR) with Tioga tire (only about 70% tread) that I could let go cheap. Let me know.

Also, for anyone that deals with the Bikezone frequently, which is alot of you I think, will they call me when my bikes ready to go? Or should I be checking in? I figure that they will give me a call, but I'm not sure...

I think I'm going to try it solo... register myself as both team members;) Now all I need is someone to ride the shore to the top and ride my enduro back down for me. Anyone interested. On another note I did the decent this morning... I used roadside attraction as the last trail... the course isn't set yet... but I did it to the water towers in 20:46 ... I think thats a pretty respectable time since last year the fastest teams were doing it in 37-40 min with the up and the down being around the same time ( 20 + 20 ). As long as I don't come dead last I'll be happy:D

Hopefully guys/gals things can get resolved asap. As of now, Brett and Garry has been extremely busy in setting up meetings with different groups and orginizations across delta in order to look for support and develope a plan that we all can live with that includes built stunts in the shed. There are some new ideas that the city wants us to look at in terms of covering liability and and things that will need to be inforced within the shed to accomodate other park users. Can you say 'ring 'ring anybody;)

But like i said, there is still lots of work to be done, there has been alot of constructive critism thrown our way but it's good cause it gets it all out in the open and leaves no misconceptions.

One of the things we are looking at is developing a logo for the shed bike club, something that we can use to indentify ourselves. So if anybody wants to leave their mark on this logo, then start thinking of any ideas. If you come up with anything, either post it up on here or email it to me at jomontana69@hotmail.com

The proposal should be going to council within the month so be patient.

Simon

Actually - bikes are still allowed. Everywhere to be precise.

The main matter we have to deal with is which trails will be allowed to have mountain bike specific stunts on them. Those will be designated as bike trails while we are still allowed to ride all the other trails. And those trails are still being reviewed.

Just keep in mind that you still have to follow all the rules that may not be posted - such as we riders yield to walkers/hikers and equestrians, make your prescence known in a polite manner or ring a bell if you have one.

All you youngin's are all candy asses if you can't ride up fromme. It's not even steep or technical:P You just have to put a little bit of effort into it.:D

And Simon I don't ever remember the ride up at the woodlot being easier than fromme. If anything it was harder. More washed out... unless it's improved a lot in the last year. Fromme is probably the easiest ride up in the whole gvrd.

Anyone have a rear tire kicking around, about 2.35 or bit smaller that I could have for cheap. Let me know. I'm not picky about what is just something to use temporarily.

Thanks

the one thing i like about the woodlot is the ride up is alot easier:o

I think you were hitting the crack a little hard the day you were riding up Woodlot. If you are actually riding and not pushing, it is more difficult and for the most part longer (if you are riding up to the top) than Fromme. Most of the upper half of the road is like riding up a dried up river bottom....big baby-heads and pretty steep in parts. I ride it all the way on my big bike, but that's because I'm a god amongst mortals.

personally i think that the problem with the ride up fromme is a) I've done it a million times and b) the road doesn't change the whole way up. I liked the woodlot cause the climb changes. Also i like the exersice:o

the woodlot isn't that bad it's just long and boring and I feel like I want to ride sooner. but the endish part up the creek is hard with teh snow:)

the log rides and stuff way down at the west end... mister twister etc. are still there. the first 4 hits on the drop trail, and the first 3 on 6 seconds are still there as well... everything else is gone gone gone. Oh and lower bender is still there as well.

Situation as it sits right now is City Council seems to be nit picking over a few things in the SBC's (Shed Bike Club) proposal. We're also waiting for the Association papers to go through and then things should start moving more rapidly since the Assoc. papers should clear some of the Council's concerns.

It's very orginized, anything that has to go through all this beaurocratic garbage takes a long time. I know that's sucks but it's the reality, the problem is people are very uneducated when it comes to mtn bikers in general and us as people.

As for the pub night guys, i've been out of the loop for a while cause Telus licks balls, but i'm trying to get some people together to come out with me on sat, it's kind of a hard draw for my unmotivated vancouver dwelling friends but i'll still be there even if it's just me and Amie

Hope everyones doing well, later

Simon

Props to you guys for all your hard work/efforts in bringing back the Shed. I only got to ride there once before the chainsaws, but it was where i was first introduced to stunts, where i rode my first teeter totter, and where i walked my first long skinny logride :P (see below)

http://members.shaw.ca/hsross/return.of.the.shedi.jpg

I know its gonna be a long and painfull haul, plowing through all the beaurocratic obstacles that will be put in your way. Those who are coordinating the efforts get my respect.

I look forward to the opportunity to ride there again one day when it is back in its former glory! :D
