That's cool. Monsters are Monsters. Hit the lip with as much speed as possible and take it like a jump. It's so much fun. I doubt it that Erik can take out the lip since i spiked it with 12" spikes so you can cut out the main peices or any for that matter. Plus i'm not going to help them at all (no me giving them tools or nothin) since i like the lip alot. They haven't even tried the lip so they don't know jack. See ya around Dave.

The reason i built that lip is because Erik kept on bitching that the drop is going to be so fucking easy since i made the tranny better. Since the lip is there i've seen alot less riders hit it which is good, less maintaining the tranny. ;)

Dunno why noone likes it, it just looks menacing.
It's cause they're a buch of chicken shits. I hit it with moderate speed and my back tire landed 5" from the top of the tranny. I really don't think that they should waste 2hours or more taking out the lip and putting it back to the boring way it was. Once you land off the lip you get tons of speed. No problem.
NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT:
I'd be interested in going for a ride at the shed, but seeing as I've never been there before I have no idea: A) how to get there (street names, etc.) or B) where the good trails are.
Is there any way I could procure a map or something?
Also, what are the laws like concerning building - from reading a small amount of this thread, it sounds like you can build wherever you want (as opposed to what its like on fromme and seymour).
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Cam

North Delta water shed. Off 64th ave. As for the building , there is to be no new building at all. You are however aloud to work and make curant trails better, and I think upgraded. If you want more info dude. Pm me and I can give you some.

from horseshoe bay, go to vancouver, Oak street, straight onto the bridge, keep going straight, you will be on highway 99, go straight, through the tunnel, past the through the cows, exit onto highway 91(should be after the highway 10 exit), go straight on 91, pass big stop area on right, take the 64th exit, turn left, go straight, park is on your right.
but most ppl meet at the elementary school, which is on the other side of the park.

Yep, I finished the frame for the jump and the tranny. I think I might add a little bit of a lip on the end of the jump, that would be sweet. Yes or No?
I was there this morning (monday) and i started to use some extremely stong cedar. It's a bitch to split but it's worth it. I'll get the jump and the tranny done by the end of this week if I don't have too much studying to do for my Calculus final.

I used blue paint because Home Hardware didn't have anymore of the cheep brown paint so i bought the cheep blue paint instead so the 2x6x10's would last a hell of a lot longer. Are there any restrictions on building gap jumps in the shed? Cause the one on Stairway would be the biggest one when i'm finished building it. I'll slow down on the building for a while cause Bluekey said that we're not allowed to have big gaps. :(

. We are trying to use joint efforts to make the shed fun for everyone. from begginer to expert. EVERYONE! The lip and tranny in our eyes is not very practical for that trail. People were injoying it as it was. As for building in the shed we are asking people to stop . We are still working on the issue with the parks board. Fixing or maintaining a trail is fine. We understand we can not police the the people in there who are building, But If we do see something that we deam to much or unsafe we will deal with it the way we see fit. Do not give the parks board more amo then they allready have. Things like starting fires in the shed is absolutley uneceptable!! I would hate to be the person that burned down the shed. Cause damb boy there would be some bikers after your ass!! Including me. So lets put an end to this prob and work together. As for stairway. My decision still stands. #1 put it back to the way it was or #2 disasemble the stunt completley.

Mike knows that he shouldn't have built the fire, and he will never do it again. OVER.
Mike now knows that mountain bikers don't like blue spray paint, and he will never do it again. OVER.
Mike sees that nobody will accept the lip, so he'd rather have it taken out then the whole trail, which will have to be done. OVER.
and Mike agrees to cool it with the building until things are settled with the Parks Board, and he promises to consult all building plans with everyone, and then include everyone in future building. OVER.
About 3 pages of hostility were needless...

First of all, this talk about dealing with the parks board has been going on for years and still nothing has been done. The shed is for EVERYONE. Stairway is a expert trail or can be classified in extreme for your category. I'm not changing it. If you don't like it go right ahead and try to remove the lip or don't ride it. I will finish the jump and the berm after the jump but that's it for now since I know that the "Shed Bike Club" is dealing with the parks board. I know you just want me to do all the work because you just want to ride all the time. You have no right to be an ass to me since i spent tons of time and patience building and improving Stairway. I split all those rungs that replaced the fencing boards guess how long that took? I never forced anyone to come help me build stuff because people are lazy. If you want to dissasemble the trail go ahead make a huge dump out of it. If you helped me build it then i would listen to you but you giving me orders is totally not acceptable.
Mike_Shore_rath

But then there wouldn't be a lip. That defeats the whole purpose of me spending 6 hours to make the lip. Out of all the people who did the original drop only about 1/4 have done the lip. I don't want it to be an increadibly easy drop to a perfect tranny. If everyone just rides the lip with a descent amount of speed, i'm positive that they would like it and no, you won't over shoot the tranny.
I'm not going to talk about the lip anymore. I'm sick of it. Just ride it.

06-11-2003, 05:03 PM
the thing is, there wasn't ever supposed to be a lip, we thought about making it bigger so you can go higher and faster (push back the tranny), but that would just mean boosting it up a couple feet.. NOt handing some little thing to throw you up, or left, or right, or down... Depending if you have 7-8 in the back..

I've been there when people have done the drop with the lip and all I heard after was them saying it was better the way it was. I'm not shitting on your work dude. You DO! good work. And we a comend you on a good gob. Don't take this apon your self as an attack mike, cause it isn't. All we ask is that you ask other peoples opinion first. There is no light. But if you want to do what u want to do. Then go do it. The gap jump after the drop is going to be pimp. I don't want to hear any complaining about that either. I just ask that all of you don't complain otherwise i'll just go ahead and do my own thing. Example: the lip

I'll tell you what. Next week thursday I will go to the shed and I will add-on to the lip. I'll get 2 logs about 8' long and i'll attach one end to the top of the lip and the other as far back as it can go. So basically the drop will be higher with no lip. I'm sure that taking off the lip would take at least two hours and I know that you can't pull out those 10" nails that I used. If anyone wants to help i'll be there next week Thursday (19th) from 3:30 till it's done.

Well I have never rode the Shed or the Shore or anything, but here is my point of view...
If Mike built the trail itself, and everything on it, then he should be allowed to do what he wants with it...
If the trail was already there and Mike built the stunts, which wreck the flow of a previously OK trail (it seems), then he should do his best to put it back to original state.
Just the polite thing to do, IMO. :)
Then again if there was a no building rule, then he should take it down anyway.
Mike_Shore_rath
06-11-2003, 09:43 PM
I designed the whole thing and built most of it and I am the one that continues to maintain/add-on and improve it be far the most. Since nobody wants a lip I will add-on to it to make it a higher drop to a perfect tranny.
Mike_Shore_rath
06-11-2003, 10:28 PM
Bla, bla, bla, i designed the teeters, the X supports, what else can i say. And yes i did most of the tough stuff. Lets face it Paul, look at Erik, do you think really think he knows anything with his messed up normal facial expression and plus how can his pinner arms lift up anything? But yes it was mostly Blake, you and myself that did most of the building part. ;)

06-11-2003, 10:29 PM
that's a dirty dirty lie mike. i'm sorry to say it but me erik and paul designed most of that trail. you did NOT build it alone, and frankly, you dont seem to be able to build by yourself. you put in some input, but there;s no way in hell you designed it. i'll come help on thursday, but i might not be able to stay very long (french final that day and math the next). it doesnt have to be very long, just enough for a bike to get on it. i'll give you complete credit for that skinny and you did do alot of manual labour, especially after it was finished but give credit where credit is due

Hmm...how do you get to the shed? Down 20th (well...it's 20th once you're in new west anyway...dunno the Burnaby name for it) then turn right and get over the queensborough bridge then the alex fraser? If so, just turn left on 8th Ave from 20th, and follow that down about 14 blocks until you get to 6th St. (pull into school parking lot to avoid parking on the street).
Or, go to http://www.mytelus.com/maps/index.jsp and scroll down to the driving directions part (not the map part) then type your address as the start, and "830 Sixth Street" as the ending address.
Or better yet, I just asked my dad .
Go straight down kingsway, it becomes 12th in New West. Turn left onto 10th (there will be a church on the corner...just after Saint Thomas Moore highschool). Follow that down until 6th St, and turn right (or turn before into the school parking lot..it's not hard once you're there).

Ungh. When I started up riding again after my collarbone recovery sabatical, I had like permanent blood blisters along my hands. If you can manage to not puncture them, and leave em for a day or two they form into uber callouses.

Although coming up on dave after he went down on A-line I can seriously say I had a sick, sinking feeling in my stomach. My first though was OH NO this is ugly... It looked like he was gonna need an ambulace. I couln't tell if the noises were groans of agony or swearing, it was swearing thankfully. All that I could see was his head and shoulders and his front wheel sticking out from under a tree and he was all laid out on some of that lovely broken pointy rock. I was pretty relieved when he got up and started moving around, I had visions of phoning his wife with the " Well Dave is on his way to the hospital right now but he's not gonna die or anything" speech
He did have that pine fresh scent for the rest of the day:D :P :D

It looked like he was gonna need an ambulace. I couln't tell if the noises were groans of agony or swearing, it was swearing thankfully. All that I could see was his head and shoulders and his front wheel sticking out from under a tree and he was all laid out on some of that lovely broken pointy rock. I was pretty relieved when he got up and started moving around, I had visions of phoning his wife with the " Well Dave is on his way to the hospital right now but he's not gonna die or anything" speech
He did have that pine fresh scent for the rest of the day:D :P :D
it's funny al but i kept waking up last night still smelling that lovely pine smell:D besides still being a litle sore i just can't stop smilin' about yesterday.AWESOME:thepimp:

It sounds like you two had an awesome time up at Whistler while I was having A SUPERB time up at Grouse riding with young Jon. We rode up all the way to the top. The Wade Simons gap is half-way done. We also saw the Super T gap where he bailed, it's a f**cken sick step-down. Then we rode a trail called "The dump" which is similar to Upper Oil Can and then we rode all of Ladies Only. The top section of Ladies Only has some amazing work put into it. The rock berms and the roller coaster are sweet. We also checked out all of Air-Supply and I took a look from the top of Side-Show, it's very scary.
I went to the shed this morning and the tranny for the jump is nearly done I just need to rock it. I filled it in with dirt because a wooden tranny won't last long. Tomorrow i'll build the berm. I'll try to finish it.

you are right lance.so thats why the new big hit was taken down yesterday.we wanted to see if anyone was going to come forward to say that they built it.it was built solid and well done BUT it was on a shared trail in a really DUMB place.why put a hit there??it's only 40' to the goat gaps.we don't need the city coming down on us for that kind of shit.if you have any questions that i can answer then fire them my way or email shedbikeclub@hotmail.com and make it attention brett armstrong.it's up to all of us riders to protect what we have in there for now and hopefully soon we can proceed to create SOME new trails/stunts. be patient peeps:thepimp:

2x6x10s. I just finished building it and only a handful of riders have done it including myself. I'm through and done with the shed. If anyone else wants to take on Stairway as their own trail go ahead and take it. I've taken my time, money, patience and tolerance of other bikers bitching at me that this is too hard. Well boo hoo. If I want to go riding i'll go riding at Fromme once i get my license at the end of July. Very few people helped me build and I thank them totally for helping me. As for the shed maybe i'll ride once a week or i'll just go back to long distance running.

I had an awesome time up at Fromme last Sunday (June 29). I took transit and it's actually very fast. I rode Upper Oil which right now is totally buffed up and perfect. I even rode the massive rock roll-down  . Then I rode Oil can for a bit then hiked back up to Air-Supply. Now I need a new frame after I cassed on the first gap jump since i didn't pedal after doing the road gap perfectly. My bash ring hit the wood at the top of the tranny and now the top tube of my frame is collapsed in. But no worries since the warranty will fix that. I'm going to go hiking on Fromme this coming weekend to check out new trails that i haven't seen before. Hopefully i'll get the frame from 03 :D .
Later,

That sucks mike, hope you get the new frame soon... I guess you will have plenty of time for building for a while:P ;) :D ...On the other hand I finally did that rock face myself last week with Bruiser. It's not nearly as bad as it looks:rolleyes: just like most stuff that scared me when I finally did it it was like " that wasn't so bad "
On another note... I AM A COMPLETE MORON... I was up in whistler this weekend and the big bike was out of commission so I was just being xc boy...I ride into town through lost lake with my armour strapped to my pack ( you can see where this is going ) so I get to the skate park and instead of stopping to put on the pads I decide to " just rip through once before stopping"... well the paint in the bowl was wet and like ice so I went down HARD on my left knee... so now I'm hoping I'll be riding by the weekend. So let that be a lesson to you, put on the armour!!!
