Old school 90s Syncros gear rider here (had the chromo tubular cranks, the stems, the rims, the bar ends and more seatposts than I can count), am I the only one looking for a little more substance on the review front from that article? So, it's great that you guys and Syncros love each other, but you get the stuff for free...is it worth my money to buy it? I picked up a pair of their lock-ons from Pricepoint and one of the collars snapped on installation. I wasn't gorilla gripping it and after I snapped it I looked for torque values I might have missed on the package but torque values were not to be found. Now one out of four bolts on one grip isn't a catastrophe, but it's less than ideal. So, should I buy the freeride hubs based on the fact that they had problems but are now responding to the issues? How are the DPS rims? Is the chainguide I buy going to be the equal of the Team Issue model? Can I trust the 1.5 reducer headset? Is the Bulk handlebar the equal or better to my long-suffering Diabolus bar? I'm really not trying to be a smartass, I have a lot of brand loyalty to Syncros (but not to Tom Ritchey)...are the parts I get going to be worthy at full price from whatever retailer I can find who stocks them?

Well old school...I'm glad you read my article, but maybe, just maybe you misunderstood its meaning. It was not intended to be a product review per-say, but more about the relationship we have with Syncros! If you want my honest opinion, Syncros is the bomb! The hubs are dialed, the rims can take a beating, the bulk bars are great, as are the low rise bars and I run 1.5 head set and I have had no problems so far. Oh, and yes the chain guide will be exactly the same as our team issue. As far as finding a retailer who carries them, well try JH or On Top or just call Norco up and ask where you can find the gear. Sorry to hear about the grips, next time don't over tighten!
PS - You did sound like a smartass, but so am I, so were good!

nothing but good things to say about the rims. I've been thrashing the DS28 rim on the SX Trail and now Demo 7 for this year and is still tried and true. DPS 32 lasted over 2 years in the rear.

I was also expecting a product review based on the article desciption on the front page. It's all great that you love their product and they respect your opinion, but I think 98% of the people clicking on the link want specifics about the products instead of hearing about how often you two go out on dates.

Geez, everybody's so literal. The guys do abuse the product and then explain what worked or didn't - to Marshall. Take your cue from the title - it's a retrospective of our relationship with Syncros, not a review.
When we review a product, it's pretty clearly labelled a review. We also don't run reviews in the team blog.
If you want to blame someone for being led up the garden path, then blame me. I wrote the teaser, not Eamonn.

to sum up Stuart, Syncros Retrospective does not equal Syncros Review.

How often we go on dates...good one! That was a great saying when I was in grade school and clearly it’s just as effective now!
Just for the Record, product review = product review and retrospective = reflecting on the past!
