Some pics from most recent trip to Slovakian mountains, this time Mt. Stoh (1608m). Climb/push was about 4hrs going up and an hour of descending (with 50m climb). Top of Stoh mt is steep but you can actually free-ride it thru grass field, not touching narrow trail aside.
That's what I call big mountain freeride :)
(no built stunts but nature itself)

Thanks :)
4hrs. isn't that long if you keep in mind 10km natural technical downhill with denivelation of 1200m (3600ft) :D
Slovakian mountains ain't Swiss Alps but they're 150km from home and not 1000km...
Reward for not having lifts anywhere near is usually no people in the eyesight.

Nice Pics!
As a 'local' comparison, three of us rode Upper Hitman (near Nelson) yesterday and some of the stats taken from my GPS were:
Start of Upper Hitman: ~1800m
Bottom (Car park/lakeside): ~500m
Decent: ~1300m
Length of trail: ~8km
Such a sweet trail mind..
:-)
sweet one. is it the tatra?

Not exactly. Smaller mountain range called "Mala Fatra" (Small Fatra). Peaks are smaller (highest have 1760m) and with gentle slopes.
But you can actually see High Tatra and Low Tatra mountains range from the top of Mt. Stoh.
cheers,

Jeesus - smaller peaks are 1760 m high =/ in my area the smaller hills are like 250 - 300 m high...wow.
sounds good - and compared to switzerland or us / canada probably cheaper.
there has been a letter writing about the eastern european scene in the last mtb-rider magazine.

"Smaller" comparing to High Tatra which are quite high (peaks up to 2600m). You actually cannot ride bikes in Tatra mountains.
Can you scan this article about CE/EE bike scene?
If you ever plan to ride here (Poland, Slovakia) let me know, we can guide you :)

Hmm. I do not have a scanner, sorry, i have to ckeck it first. i could send it via snail-mail.
Thanx for the offer - i am really interested in these mountains. saw a documentary on the tatra mountains once and ... wow. like the rockies, just in the geographical middle of europe. sweet.
