Straight from my SORCA email:

Wednesday, October 4th – At the Adventure Centre - 7 PM

This meeting is probably the most important meeting we have ever held so please make all effort to attend. The face of mountain biking could dramatically change in the near future and everyone’s input is being asked for.

If you like to ride the trails in Squamish, then it would be best to show up and be heard.

I'd definitely encourage any squampton folk to go to that meeting.....it's true, there are some very big things in the pipe that people need to hear about.....don't be apathetic folks, you may find yourself scratching your head in a couple months wondering what happened to all your trails......GET INVOLVED!

hi all. this general meeting is JUST FOR SORCA MEMBERS. it is not an open public meeting. trail issues are going to be discussed as well some other sorca issues. we are hoping that in the not to distant future the district of squamish will be hosting an open house for the general public on trail issues in the area.

thanks cliff

This all sounds very dark and mysterious, but any tidbits for the common man (ie non-SORCA member) to let us in on just what these 'dramatic changes' might be?

Thanks,

Kn.

then concerned parties should JOIN SORCA and go to the meeting! well, riders should join their local clubs regardless!

Any clues as to what will be discussed? I work in seattle during the week, but if I had some idea of exactly what is being discussed, I could try and come back early for the meeting... also, any chance to join SORCA at the meeting? Do you have to show a card or something?

I guess there's that whole Farside re-route thing.
I suppose we'll also have to address the issue of installing 7 more DH runs down Diamond Head...

Hey Cliff,

Nothing like spuring on more members to join. With all the out of towners we see, a few more bucks will aid the dire need of our trails. I know I give to SORCA, NSMBA and also the North Shore Search and Rescue every year.

I'll be there with bells on.

If you live in squamish join sorca and get involved.

Of all the travels lee and I have been on, Squamish is the best town when it comes to an area with an easily accessed trail system catering to MANY levels.

you can stop by either bike shop in town and get a membership form to fill out. i imagine there will be a check in type sheet with all the members names on it. with the evolution that squamish is experiencing the mountain bike network as we know it today is going tobe different 10 years from now and the sorca executive want to make sure the membership knows what is comming down the pike.

i am sure the issue of unsanctioned construction will be discussed. as it stands right now as of about 6 months ago all the existing trails were gps'd and this information was turned over to motsa. with this information they are attempting to move forward and "legalize" what was existing at that point and put together a comprehensive trail stratagey. as well these "legal" trails would be the only ones that would be rebuilt should the area where they exist be logged.

there are tons of issues facing the mountain bike community in squamish and both the sorca exec and the district of squamish want the sorca members to know exactly what is being done about it first hand. kinda one of those "membership has its privlige" type of things.

This will be about squamish specific politics and advocacy ian - neither of us have any connections there - we'll be of no use.
