... And damn near claimed Rusty as well. RustyFromUK showed up last Sunday from... well... the UK! He immediately went out and bought a bike. He rode with us on the shore on Tues, then again with a few other NSMB denizens on Wed.
He and I went to Whistler today. We rode a whole wack of stuff and when I got sick of trying to keep up on A-Line and Dirt Merchant, I lured him over to the tech side.
Here is Rusty soaking in the Whistler lift vibe:

Here is Rusty crushing the Joyride rock face:

All of a sudden I hear the unmistakable sound of tire deflation, and look over to see Rusty flying through the air. I wish I had've kept the camera trained on him. Apparently he didn't think that he needed to slow down before hitting the rest of Joyride and rode into the rock in the left of the photo. Rusty is standing beside the location where he touched down. You can see the disturbed earth beside him.

Here is what the wheel looked like afterwards. Yikes!!

He was a bit shaken up, but otherwise OK. He walked the bike back up to the gondy, downloaded, and found a shop that would build him up a new wheel for tomorrow AM. He's still got 6 days left at Whistler. Better luck tomorrow, mate!

Heading towards the blueberry patch isn't allways the safest route.
That's a nice souvenir to take home with him. I wish I had seen you up there, I rode schlayer (spelling?) a couple of time and the rock on there was super grippy, first time I have ever cleared it. Is Joyride similar or more difficult?

I find Joyride very similar to Schleyer. Lower Joyride is really steep and tight in the trees and a bit more challenging... to ME anyway.

Rusty is from Essex, England. My friend & I rode up on the Gondola with him (just before the wipeout I guess, cause his wheel was still okay). We mistakenly got out at mid mountain then got back on for the ride to the peak. He was just telling us all about his new bike. Too bad, but good to hear him & his bike are back in the game. Terrible waste of vert at the start of Garbo, but the rest was worth it. Super tacky on the rock faces spells good times!

We rode Fromme on Wednesday with Russ, before sampling many beers!
Cajoled him to take his 2 ride old fork back to JH to get it working properly.
He just needs someone to show him the goods at Gillard and Powers next week...anyone???

I am pretty sure the bike is a Norco six three. The website says it comes with WTB Speed disc rims.

Six2, I'm pretty sure.

Upper Joyride is like a different version of Schleyer but a bit harder. Lower Joyride is harder than upper as it's steeper, and it has a (I think) sketchy wooden drop at the end of it. It's possible to roll it but I tried airing it and went over the bars on landing = sprained and lacerated hand! I thought I'd broken it though so that was a nice surprise. It's a really fun trail apart from that bit though, the rock outcrops are challenging on a hardtail!

Ya, he's definatly got a great attitude. I swear he was more bummed about having to walk back up to the Gondy than anything else!

Walking back up and taking the Gondi back down is cheating. Everyone should have to do the death march with your broken shit the old fashioned way, so people riding the lift get to heckle you on the way down.
Oh those were the days...... broken frame... grumble grumble
