I'm looking forward to the '07 season eventhough this one's not quite done yet.
I'd like to see the 'ol No Joke (RIP), replaced with a similar flowing trail that would link Freight Train.
Some more intermittent rain and girls handing out powerade at select refueling stations on the mountain.
:)
Wish list:
1. Another single track, old school style trail similar to the OGS / GG / In Deep line.
2. A Expert / Pro line modeled after 4 Lost Souls (Eagle) & Platinum (Woodlot).
Wish list
1. Blue run down Garbo so everyone could enjoy it up there. (And less experienced riders stay off of the other trails)
2. Wall-rides (berm rides) on trails that are like the ones that Digger built for the Cypress Bike Park. (So sweet, curved, tall and with grippy paint)
3. Connect all parts of Freight Train.
4. Rain when I'm not there

-replace every single berm on the mountain with bricked-in berms :)
-install wallrides like the first one on worldcup at silverstar
-a blue run from the top down
-something to replace no joke
-a watering system for the trail network so work can be done even when the rain is nowhere to be found
-a bike n' bean grill up top so we can have lunch and then drop in!
-open an hour earlier and close an hour later...for no other reason than..because
-200$ early purchaser seasons passes for a very limited time
-faster lifts? :)
....no no, a teleporter!
the Master Plan Dan

Teleporter... Helz Yeah!
In all seriousness...
1. Wall Rides... agreed like Cypress,
2. Watering stations if not for the trails, for the people, one at the top near Garbonzo... and one near the top of the Fitz chair so that I don't have to ride all the way to A-Line.
3. Dual Slalom course... PLEASE!... under cough... the garbonzo... cough... chair!
4. A kiosk at the top equiped with beautiful women selling stuff so I can fuel up!
5. More rain on the mountain although the likely hood of that happening is slim to none.
I am stoked for next year as I killed it this year. I think in the end that I rode the place too much... I loved every second of it, but I am going to work on diversifying my riding, more Shore Time and definately more Squamish and Interior time next year!
I know that the season isn't over and I know I will be back for at least twice more.... but...
Thank you Whistler for an incredable year... filled with some Crankwoxs goodness and some random controversies that beg for explanation.
Cheers!

1# bikercross harder, like it was earlyer in the season. bring back the steepup-step down from 2005.
2# build a fast flowy single track trail, like shandro and watson segment in the collective.
3# finsh frieght train top to bottom
4# shleyer type trail off garbonzo.
5# build dirtmechent all the way to the bottom
6# build jumps on the part of aline that is flat and rocky, its like riding down a road.
I love the lip on the big side of the box this year, and the new crowd pleaser jump is sweet! I like all the new wood work as well, and that new section of frieght train was so much fun. Is the closing date for the park set yet?

How about an offical DH training run.
Scan your season pass to activate a timer which you then again scan at the end of the trail to recieve your time, much like the grouse grind. Build a world cup caliber closed course for people to practise on, free from other trail crossing. Post signs stating the use of the trail, expect advanced riders at speed. This may free up traffic and people would not feel like they are being ridden over on some of the other trials currently used. This could be the start of a national training center for CDN DH'ers.
more dirt merchant
more wank it off with bermed rather than flat corners
more challenging techy trails like os-gg-id
a lower grade (less steep than the other trails, but enough gradient to keep you going) flowy singletrack trail zigzagging across the mountain right from the peak (or the top of garbaznoz) which can be accessed without a guide
less drought
more imaginative, interesting and twisted trail building in all new trails - keep it up!
a coffee/cookie bar at olympic and chic pea staffed by the longhorn waitresses
braking caverns banned on a-line
the lip over that wooden ladder jump on schleyer to be fixed
more hips
a kona jump farm
more quirky and fun features eg freight containers
dust prohibited on all trails
a webcam on the techy corner on goats

I would love to have a fast flowy singletrack trail. But the problem is that it would get beat to shit so quickly and lose it's fast flowiness. And we need wallrides like at silverstar.

please never do that. Its the actaully full-out Give'r part on Aline, i love it, its fast and rocky. Make it harder or even and a drop and then a bigger berm at the bottom!

A nice size berm at the top so you can launch down there at top speed. Now that I'd like.

The berm at the bottom is fine.
More bricked berms would be nice, and wallrides on dirt merch or A-Line would be exciting as well.

I can't believe i'm saying this but i love the top of that improvised trail going from the Roundhouse down to the top of Garbo. There should be a super smooth trail going from the top to the bottom of the mountain just right down some mellow ski runs, strait up top speed kamikazee run, maybe some big berms, with long smooth strait aways. You could call it Formula 1 or something like that. You heard it here first.
I think they could definitely be even more creative with the rockfaces and things up on Garbo, i see tons of faces under the chair that would be so mush fun if incorperated into a trail.
It's about time Whistler tries to figure out some kind of system to get some water on all the trails on a daily basis. I think they should have kona rig them up some stinky's with big ol' water tanks atached to them, maybe 3-4 gallons, with a pump that is run off the rear wheel, and a little spray nozle under the bike. It could maybe spray like 2 feet wide, just hit the trails where it counts. You could have a guy who just makes the rounds for a few hours a day and hits the trails that need it most. Hell, I'll do it. The bike wouldn't need to go fast, it'd just need to get down the trails.
Pure genious i am.

- open the chicpea for lunch on garb
- i second the $200 earlybird pass idea
- more tech trails on garb to replace no joke (RIP)
- connect freight train so the rockstars dont ride the tech trails :D
other than that...THANK YOU WHISTLER for improving my riding skillz so much this season. can't believe i'm riding stuff now that in june scared the crap outta me (figuratively speaking)

Im thinking maybe a private lift acessed area thats free with a seasons pass for experts only :P
Neh, Id like to see a little more maintainence. I love the WHIS and have only been there once but it seemed to me the berms on aline didnt get enough help, probalbly because its a huge place and cant be maintained easily, so maybe more staff ?
Also, something nice and techy like devils club but more challenging. Like im talking super wood trail, so again, like devils club but harder. That would be cooler

1) Bigger discounts/perks for winter passholders buying a summer pass. We're your bread & butter - $50 doesn't cut it. Perhaps Whistler should make an annual pass option when one buys a winter pass in October. I bet their passholder numbers would skyrocket.
2) More Crank it Up style trails. I've been riding the park with my 9 year old this year and have found Crank it up great for helping him progress without the intimidation of hitting A-Line.
3) Take a tougher stance with ripper a-holes who treat newbs like dirt. Some of the behavior as reported here and elsewhere is simply unacceptable. To take the park to the next level they need to focus on making the experience a bit less intimidating for newbs with $$ to spend.
4) Really, could it be any better? Great job WBP! I feel so lucky to live here every time I hit the park (and the shore, etc).

You do realize that's probably the most dangerous part of the mountain right? Ever looked on the other side of that berm? It's a fall to your death..
At the very least, a grom should sweep that berm once a week. I don't think whistler realizes how dangerous it is. All it will take is one person going over it to change their mind though..

I like the idea of a curved wallride on Dirt Merchant.
More rooty loveliness trails like In Deep
A similar grade trail to No Joke as a replacement, but with more Schleyerererey features on it, such as rock rolls, some easy ladder work, a few tables here and there. Oh and plenty of singletrack with great, varied corners and interesting lines like the old No Joke
Please please please please sort out that first bridge jump on Schleyer - tyre bonking the first slat is just a bit sketch when jumping the thing...I ended up riding the start of Joyide instead as it just ruined the flow of the trail.
Place a second wallride on the left after the Duffman/Golden Triangle wallride.
Maybe do a bit of work to the last run of jumps on Freight Train? I just never found them to be as nice as jumps higher up on the trail, or say the start of Dirt Merch.
A harder entrance stunt on certain higher level trails. The A-Line feature may as well not be there IMO, you can roll the thing or ride around it! Certainly a warning on the harder trails, such as Goats. The number of people who find themselves out of their depth down there is quite worrying and it ruins the flow of riders who can ride it.

i've had a buddy wipe out on that spot, not sure if he went over the edge or not (this was about 2 yrs ago) - he got a concussion. he's got a few from whistler, last one just 2 weeks ago :P
personally i love that flat rocky section and then the downhill berm, no brakes, lean and just give'er. the adrenalin rush is amazing.

well the lifts cant go any faster if people cant load on them at that speed, and they cant trust us. 0.1 or .2 meters a second faster doesnt make much difference.
i'd like to see when the park says they're going to build something, that it gets built.
i'd like to build or see another trail like devils club and smoking mirrors with maybe a few more technical lines and wheely type drops just a single black and not as crazy as crack addict.
more tight single track like too tight or angry pirate.
an extension of crank it up to be a full length trail dropping into that valley a little more.
another no joke trail cause that trail was awesome all the way through especially for a hardtail not to brutal.
like to see fox or one of the other sponsors throw out some freebee clear water resistant jackets on rainy days like today.
a better longer and more publicly accessible boneyard.

if people reported bad behavior to lift operators, patrol and guest relations then maybe we could crack down on it as a whole, but when all people do is complain online then not much can be done

All a bigger berm would mean is more people taking that corner at high speeds. Which, would increase the chance of someone fucking up and getting destroyed.
As it is right now, I think it puts off people from going full speed into it unless they know how to turn pretty good.

I think you have a point there - that corner is fine flat out; there is loads of support there. However, as it is so low it puts most people off riding it fast unless they are confident in their cornering ability.

make the lift tickets cheaper
Get a job.
The passes are cheap compared to the winter season.
They're even cheaper considering what you get out of a 10-8pm day riding on a mountain where people from around world just dream of coming to and it's in our own backyard.

:
No shit. If anything make them MORE expensive (especially the season passes that are really cheap) and use the extra money to pay for more trail builders!!!
When you look at the cost of a season pass vs the cost of the equipment, I'd rather put a little less in the bike and have even more killer trails (more trails would also mean less damage from the crowds!)
Have some trails days where people who want to ride but are really broke can spend time maintaining trails under some skilled supervision in order to get free tickets.
Everybody wins!

There should be only 1 priority. Get more tech lines from the top of Garbo
Once that is done, then let's fix the ladder bridge on Old School. That thing creaks more than my knees and the stringers are only as big around as my penis. That thing is going to fail one of these days and since I'm about the only one that rides it, it'll probably be me that's on it!

^Wow down there tiger... More expensive? Are you kidding me?
The thing cost $300.00. Now factor gas into the equation, stay, food, extra caricular activities... the place is already expensive enough.
I would definately get out and do a trail day on Whistler but... we have a hard enough time doing it with the Shore.
(Side note... it was great to see the new faces on the trail this past weekend and also great to see the people that continually come out to everyone. It makes my writing your name out so much easier!)
Making it more expensive would limit the people that could afford to go there!

Just for the record...
This is my second season riding and I hit Whistler for the first time ever on Aug. 19 2006. It was paradise. There were 6 of us who made it over from the Island that day; 1 of us is pretty good, 2 of us like to jump and ride a bit hard, and 3 of us like to to take it a little bit slower. We were treated well all day as far as I know. Even when we didn't know where we were going, were bashing into each other, were slowing down for most jumps on FT/DM/A-L etc. So thanks.

definately like the idea of burlier intros to the more diificult trails to deter folks that shouldn't be on them, it only causes accidents for both parties....
A-line has become as much of a tourist attraction as much as it is a trail.
Honestly maybe a trail that parallels it a BIT more with viewing pullouts so some can see it and maybe not feel as compelled to ride it on a weekend when hundreds are pounding down.
For some seeing it may be enough, then they will work towards learning at home so when they come back they will feel more prepared.

Agreed that A-Line has become an attraction... I like the idea of the burlier intros... except that Viewing Pullouts become poach lines... how many people haev I seen skip the first drop on Dirt by going around that green trail and then hoping under the tape on the corner there!
Hell I came down that once and almost closked someone starting from there!
