Anyone know of a waterproof back pack? Something that you can
drop in the water and not get the inside wet. I don't submersible
just waterproof.

Thanks in advance.

it depends what you want it for ie. day hiking, biking, going to the beech, multi day expeditions etc

in general, unless you get a dry bag for padeling, or an arctery'x naos pack, it wont be waterproof. on the other hand, using a pack cover (of you want to keep rain out) or lining the pack with a plastic bag will keep your stuff dry

I think the arcteryx is a bit too much (nice bag though not sure I could ride
in it). I'm thinking like a bag I could ride in pack a lot of stuff in and not have
to have everything inside be in waterproof containers (extra weight). I don't
find the plastic bags to be too reliable.

I rains a lot here.

Mahalo so far...

No pack is truly waterproof. And even if it is it will eventually fail.

In winter I use a small stuff sack designed for canoing or kayaking.

I believe some of the Deuter hydration packs come with a rain-shield built into a little pocket, so you can pull it out and over the bag when it rains. They have some in MEC.

I have one of these bags, and the rain shield is great. I spray the whole bag once in a while with water proofing spray, including the sheild which is super quick to pull out and put over your bag and packs away nice and small. I have a hydration bladder in mine as well. Even has a handy helmet carrier strap that also tucks away. Mine's the Deuter Superbike, i think it has a different name at MEC.

spray on waterproofing and a rain cover sound like your best bet

In retrospect, perhaps MEC isn't exactly convenient for you... REI seem to carry some of the Deuter line tho.

^yeah, I'm going to Whistler next week so mec is an option. I'll
have to check out the Deuter.

Just pick up a dry sack that matches the size of the inside of your pack, and stick it in there. About 20 bucks at any outdoor dealer (Mec or REI will do). Coglan's makes good quality yellow ones, makes it real easy to see things when you're rooting around in your pack.
