Thanks to James Stauffer for letting us remember what the first time was like and to his brother Joel taking one for the team.

Nice pictures - the orange tint looks great. Perhaps a little bit more of the emotion of the rider could come through - almost too clinical in his descriptions of fear? I suppose it might be too stream of consciousness though if that happened.

James - I windsurfed and surf too a lot - used to live on Vancouver island. The feeling I get when I pump through roots and rock downhill and nail the "flow" is like a down-the-line perfect peeling glassy wave.

Great article, love the pics! Although, I have it on good authority that Dean isn't rebuilding the trail. (Last Picture caption)

What a great article.

This particular quote rings very true for me:

"Mountain biking on the North Shore is a big deal - a source of pride and community involvement. I feel blessed to live in Vancouver."

... and this one brought back many good memories ...

"I feel like I am on a roller coaster gripping a jack hammer while hanging on for dear life. Could all of that be avoided if I picked a better line or when I gain more experience? Only time will tell"

So true and why I suspect many of us keep coming back for more.

My bad.

I put those together because we shot on NH when we presented Dean with his new Norco. So Knn is Ken Neave no? Who are you in real life Ducati? Assuming neither of you object to being mentioned in the caption.

Could not agree more. When I am out working on traildays or rippin down any of the mountains... it is a great reminder of why I moved here! This place rocks!

Don't want to derail the thread, but just wanted to mention that many others have helped to restore the trail, including King-of-E-Ville, Dirty Deeds, Sketchy Flanders, DarthYoda and Heckler, to name but a few.

It’s heartening to see new riders to the Shore having fun on the trail.

The restoration is incredible. Special thanks once again to Ducati and Knnn for making it happen.

Nice article dudes...

Sounds like me back in the day with my Brodie Rocket HT learning the in's and outs of Mountainbiking on the Shore and up on BBY Mountain.

Good times.

Interesting perspective. My first ride on the Shore was on Seymour, Ned's. It was wet, foggy, and cold. We didn't care... but it was the one ride that made me buy a bigger bike. My little ol' XC sure didn't cut it too well on that trip. Exploded my rear hub and endoed twice cuz of the front rake not being enough for serious DH. The Ollie does fine.
