Hmmm I hope they will leave some trees standing on the mountain when they finish all that construction...I wonder how much the bitchin' would occur if that clear cutting were done to construct MTB trails instead of the ski trails.

Great comment, and yeah...lots of bitching and moaning if it were clear cutting for MTB.

But, it is private land, so what can we do.

I expect the crew already has put in place a contingency plan to cut an entirely new line that will circumvent the Olympic construction. So, we'll be without No Joke for the rest of this season, but I bet something even better next year.

On that note, I'm stepping up the sense of urgency to get up there this week. Likely take Wednesday or Thursday off to ride.

Corey Anderson? Do you have any calls you need to make in Whistler? ;)

TheRob: early up, early down. Easy peasy.

why would they clear cut for a mountain bike trail???

you should check out what they're doing for the new Piccolo lift if you're concerned about tree cutting!

I'll post an obituary.

It will read :

No Joke was a good run. He was always there, rain or shine.
Although at times he may have gotten a little rough around the edges,
he was always there to give you a helping hand and knock you around when you needed it.

Here here !

No Joke !

So who's up for Frieght Train? No Joke wouldn't want us to sit around weep over it! Get on with it!

They wouldn't of course. I was just trying to be a little sarcastic because it seems anything to do with MTB causes a controversy (environmental or otherwise) whereas other s*it appears to go ahead with comparatively no problems (e.g. no M. C. types jumping up and down, etc.).

FlipFantasia
08-22-2006, 02:53 PM
oh don't worry, the process for approvals for cutting of the new dh runs for the olympics was EXTREMELY involved, a very large environmental assessment process was completed......I know it all to well........the new lift on the other hand........

Hey Flip, satisfy my curiousity.....how do they get a machine in there to dig the holes for the lift tower bases? The terrain looks pretty rugged and I never see a road. It's always been a mystery in my pea-brain.

i watched on show on the construction of a cable car system such as chairlift. they used choppers to fly everything in and place it.

I didn't do anything related to the new lift, from what I understand they brought equipment in the snow.....aside from that, I'm pretty ignorant on that issue!

Yeah most of it was still rideable yesterday (from the little gap over the stream). Today it's all gone from the bottom of the orange chair up... glad I got to ride it a few more times! Hopefully something great will replace it next year. One may hope :D

so how does one get to the top of the creekside gondola to do more freight train?

hpman
08-23-2006, 11:32 PM
Ride Goat's Gully and when Goat's gully ended, stay on the main track (use Bear cub, don't go into In Deep)) and the creekside gondola is just at 300m ahead.

I can't remember to be honest, I was just pissed cause my rear wheel fell off on the upper section and then my chain fell off! most bizarre thing I've ever had happen to me in a race! oh well, good times regardless and it seemed to come together for the lower section......damn lower joyride is one of my favs!

I ride top of Freight down to the stepup and then around the corner on bearcub, hop onto O Sin and then take a left down Pony trail and 1/2 way down you can hop back onto Freight down to the mid station. Did that line a few times tonight. Works good.

Hey Kookboy, Pony Trail is closed from just above the step up above Goat's G. There is a lot of construction there and you will not be popular taking that route. Maybe you meant taking a left on Bear Cub after Goat's. That is the way to get to Creekside Mid and Freight Train. We have to recpect the constuction closures as there is logging, blasting, excavation and a lot of heavy equipment. If peple poach these areas and cause hazzards, the whole zone, yes Garbanzo, will get closed for all biking.

Pro is right. Please stay off of Pony Trail or you'll wreck it for everyone. Plus you might get blown up or have a tree fall on your head.

Sorry guys. My trail names are off. I just looked at the ski map. It's Bear Cub that I took down and not Pony Trial.

Riding yesterday was busy after work. Garbo was closed down leaving everyone on the lower mtn. :crybaby:
