View Full Version : Dirt Merchant DJ contest?

There were a lot of complaints this year about the Crankworks dirt jump jam. Most of it boiled down to the fact that the riders were doing jumps that just weren't built for mountain bikers. So why not have a contest on a course made specifically for mountain bikers? Whistler has a couple jump trails on the mountain, and I see lots of people tricking them, I'd like to see a freeride contest on one of these trails. The way that it could work, is that you'd have somebody filming each section and then rider judge everybodies runs at the end, you could even add a time component to it if you wanted. Dirt Merchant seemed to be the best choice, but you could do A-line or Freight Train too, yoyu could even go Freight Train to Dirt Merchant to A-line though that would probably be too long. What tdo you think? Good idea? is this even an original idea?

I think the logistics are too complicated, because you can't see the whole course from one standpoint. Setting up cameras and the rest of it seems too cost and time prohibitive.

Good idea though! I'd like to see someone gap and trick those two tables right before the small drop that is before the huge step-up! (confusing, I know...)

The speed that you would need... but man that would be sick to see!

I hated those two tables... but now that I can clear them... I like em... I like em a lot!

that would be sweet, but it would be to hard to set up and you could only see like 1 or two jumps from your standpoint.

Well, I have seen a number of DJ contests that were just one or two jumps. Plus, it'd be no different than the Air DH race.

Not exactly. Pumping jumps and staying low to the ground for maximum speed doesn't usually podium in jump contests.

I was talking spectator wise.

Use the BX, you could see the hole event. Not as many jumps but it would be cool to see what good DJers do with a race course.

i say use part of aline. there are straight lines of gnarsized jumps that could get sessioned well. maybe 3 or 4? who knows.
