Hey guys, I'll be coming up to Whistler for the first time and riding this Monday and Wednesday. I've followed these forums for some time now and it seems that everyone here is into jumping/aline, etc.

I'm looking to ride trails (probably Garbo style from what is sounds like) that a fun singletrack/double track, technical (not too insane) riding. Berms are fun, Crank it up sounds fun, but I really could care less about A-Line, the boneyard, etc. Oh, and I'm not into bridges, skinnies and stunts, etc.

Based on that description, I also wanted to point out that I'm from the midwest in the US and we have NO riding ANYTHING like this where I'm from. The longest downhill around here is 15-20 seconds--at most.

In saying that, I do want to not that I'm proficient on a bike and last summer I was up at Northstar in Lake Tahoe, Ca. I could handle everything there but two of the double black diamond trails. It actually looks like Northstar is more dangerous than Whistler---Northstar was just rocks, rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Loose soil, dust, and more rocks.

Have any of you guys ridden at Northstar that can compare their rating sytem/trails to Whistler?

Do you think I'll be able to ride the blacks in Garbo judging from what I just said?

If I was going to Whistler for 8 days of riding, I wouldn't be posting this message, as I would go up and take it slow, check EVERY trail out on the mountain, etc. Since I only have less than 2 full days I wanted to get as much info/trail recommendations as possible so I can get the most out of my time there.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gannan

My friend Dave from Chicago said something similar, that the North Shore didn't look any tougher than Northstar...then proceeded to walk all of CBC.

:D

Just post a report comparing the two when you get back.

As far as feeling out the park, after a warm up on Crank-it up or B-Line, try one of the Black or DB on the lower part of the hill. If you get comfy there, proceed up to Garbo. Most out of town riders are blown away by Garbo and it's techical difficulty, and that includes many a pro. But, although it is a steep learning curve, it's a fast learning curve...if you have a good base of skills.

Have fun!

you can probably do every single trail in whistler just not the hardparts of them because there are usually easy ways around everything

Are you kidding? There's what, three trails with skinnies? I'd say that all but maybe six trails are eliminated by his requirements.

you should try some of the stuff that you dont want to do, after all your going to go ride a new place, why not ride some new stunts?
