Specialized likes to make a big splash when it's introducing new product for the upcoming year. They generally get dozens of bike journalists in one place, and roll out the goods, and this year was no different. Well, actually, it was a little different....

The forks are being made in Taiwan to Specialized's specs.

What an incredibly pain-staking detailed writeup Stu. That and the Crankworks writeup - tip of the hat

You're joking right??
Is that a good thing or a bad thing.... Oh well, I know that Suntour were not the best forks for a loooooooong time, but they seem to be making a push for more widestream acceptance. Maybe the influx of cash from someone as big as Specialized will help them become a bigger player.

I thought it was X-Fusion?
And I heard someone else. I think that Specialized is trying to keep that info a bit of a secret, so no one can make any comments about their fork manufacturer.

What you and I need to do Stu is do get our mitts on the new lightweight Specialized All Mountain bike and then I get the Norco Fluid SE and we compare them head to head on some long fully-paid Chilcotin expedition

Definately not ... they are still with Fox. There are 2 branches of Fox one for each of the brothers - Fox Head, and Fox Tail. Fox tail has always been making suspension ( forks and shocks ) while fox head has been in clothing ( jerseys, goggles ect.. ) this year however, Fox HEAD is the company who are manufacturing the Spec's suspension. Is is still tuned and worked on specialized themselves, but SR Suntour are not in the equation for the Big Red S bikes.

Specialized frames are among the nicest out there and i'm impressed how they are continually searchin for ways to improve but they seasonally disappoint me with their choice of colours and graphics.
SantaCruz seem to be the only company that gets it in my opinion. They have a simple line up of 8 or 9 well designed frames available in a rainbow of colours with a variety of specs to match an individual riders price point.

We should maybe merge these threads together. Lots of good discussion going on in both.
