Well, today i headed up to whistler. Long drive but well worth it.

First trail I did was crank it up- B-line - Boneyard

next i thought i was progressing nicely and kept hitting Crank it up, b-line -intermediate skills park etc. etc.

So I thought now I would try this big (at the time) jump right in front of the joyride drop park. Wow, I was stunned never got that much air before..

After that run im thinking A-Line will be the way to go. So i just kept hitting a-line that day . The feeling is indescribable. Never gotten that much air in my life. I LOVE clearing that table on aline (biggest one there) where you go down a slight jump, land down hill then hit that massive jump (my fav.) theres a berm and a small ladder bridge right after
.

Well heres my firsts for today, like things ive progressed :

- Did my first 5.5 ft drop (biggest before that was round 3-4 ft)
- Did the BIGGEST jump of my life, virtually shat my pants
- I can now clear about 55% of Alines jumps. I can ride that trail pretty fast.
- Did my first ever wallridees (3 in a row on crank it up, rode them to the top)
- First EVER box (step up box) on crank it up
- FIRST EVER TIME beating a truck (not beating, just going faster)

I love whistler. Unfortunatly though i was put out of comission for around an hour. Over lunch i noticed that my quick release piece was gone (QR20 + axle). Went to the shops, it would cost an outstanding $100 for two little parts. Im cheap as dirt, so thats not what i did. I went to this shop (you go down a big flite of stairs, they rent out rm7s) and got it mickey moused (just as strong) for only $7 ! Thanks guys, if someone knows the name please tell me i forget

Well thats my review on whistler, what do you think of my first days progress ?

Whistler is the ultimate place for less advanced riders to try new things. It's nice to hear that you accomplished that much in one day:lol:. I wish I had Whistler to offer those things when I was in the less advanced stages:(.

I believe that shop is Summit. That one and Fanatyk are the best in Whistler in terms of service and really cool staff. Not a bad selection either.

Yes, Whistler is an amazing place. And I forgot how much I liked A-Line until I rode it again on Monday. It rules.

How are your hands holding up? Whistler is fun, but brutal on the body, especially your hands.

A piece of me dies everyday I'm not in Whistler. The place is amazing to help improve your skills. But like someone said earlier, hard on the hands.

Were you driving that yellow Nissan pickup I passed (silver Escape with white Bullit on the back) just past the ferry terminals? If so, step on it, man...you must have lost like an hour of riding...

I remember my first day there as well... I arrived at 11:30 pm. I didn't even get to see the mountains that we were driving by to get to Whistler, becasue it was so late. I was up at 6 am and ready to go... starring at the Bike Park from the gondola base was a moving experience!

(note... I came for a visit 2 years ago, prior to moving here)

A-Line was my favorite for... a very long time. First ever trail was Dirt Merchant.

Whistler forces you to progress at a faster rate... simple bacause... "Everyone wants to ride Dirt Merchant and A-Line!"

My heart lies in the sands of the Whistler Bike Park!

Enjoy... and the commute isn't that far!

Dan your right.

I had an interesting experience though. I was too stoked when i got home to tell you guys, all shaky and shit, happy as a motherfuckin' clam. Well I see the ALINE trail head, im like hell I'll do it. Theres this like tiny drop, and a sign:

"The first stunt represents the skill required to do this trail. If your having trouble now, Stop"

Im like man, this trails easy (its easy but hard to get it down). So im rippin it, kinda half clearing jups eh, than i rip this 180 berm and pumell down this hill, I decide to slow down a tap. I launched that 30ft table so fast it wasn't even funny. I launched and like went totally vertical on my back wheel, scary as fuck, landed and into the woods i went, crashing into rocks and tree. Gawd I love A-Line

drummer_dil

theres a 30ft table on aline?

freakonaleash

Aparently?!??!??!?

(Clearing throat)

As a project manager (Construction Industry) I deal with dimensions all the time. Even worse than spelling is people's inability to judge distance.

The only table that comes even close is the second last one at the bottom when you come out of the forest... and that one is pushing maybe 15 feet!

Freakonaleash... I am not picking on you but man these kids telling everyone that they are droping 30 feet or tabling that... that is taller than a standard two story house with a roof!

I doubt that many can so that!

Sorry for the freak... you can now all return to your regualr scheduled programming!

I couldn't jump at all before I started riding at Whistler. I came from a XC background growing up in Victoria.
It is just so easy to find trails that teach you whichever skills you lack with the possible exception of skinnys.
For me, I just hit Dirt Merch and A-Line again and again until I started clearing the jumps. Now I clear 95% of them every time.
There's still lots of room to improve. I'm going up Sunday.

^ Facrobat...... man do I ever wish that trail was ten times longer and had some up hill sections.

That would be sick as... well sick could be!

Hey man no worries! I am glad that it brought you that much joy! Trust me the first time that I cleared that I thought I was a rock star. Then the next run owned me!

Just watch it though... Whistler becomes an addiction more expensive than crack!

Get out and ride... its the weekend!

If I drive up before the end of August, I probably could give you a ride, provided that you can make it to Vancouver.

I drive up almost every weekend just for a day or two and some during the week when I'm not working. Fire me a PM when you want to go.

30ft table ? I thought it was like 5ft :)
