very nice

Knowing my luck, my 50lb A-line will render me unconscious even with the foam pads everywhere !

I hope it doesn't get too busy...you'd never get a turn to jump.

Is this something I could bring my beginner girlfriend to so she can learn to jump? Or should i just bring her down ALine on a weekend?

LMAO...maybe I'll meet up w/ you and your gf and bring my wife. We can
take a roll aline w/ them...maybe get a whole bunch of gf's and wives. I
wonder how long the traffic line would get by the time we hit the bottom?

It's only going to be open three days after I get there. Maybe I could get
the "other" hand off the handlebar for that no hander. I don't need to do
any backflip w/ a 45lb demo landing on me, just a no hander.

Do you think that bringing a fullie and full gladiator outfit will get me vibed
out by the ht kids?

Sounds cool, but I'm not hugely stoked on having to pay for it.

I heard if you went at the right times in the past couple weeks (no Gravity camps using it) then they'd have let you jump for free.

It'll be busy and $15 for 3 hours... I guess if I was staying up there and didn't feel like riding the park one day.

A bike park seasons, ticket, or tripleplay won't have that included, will it? Might be nice to include it in the Bike park seasons pass for next year anyways...

Dude

You don't want to pay? $15 is peanuts for 3 hours.

Seriously...what makes you think Whistler should just go ahead and provide free services for anyone?

Sheesh...

I agree with Dude on that one. You gotta pay to play. But I have a feeling with the amount of people there jumping and the time it takes to get out of the pit, etc. There may only be about 40-50 jumps an hour and if there are 50 people there jumping at any give time (especially on a weekend) you might get a jump an hour if you're lucky.

I wonder if they will let you rent the whole facility out with a group of friends. Same idea as renting an indoor park for a few hours.

I see what you're saying dude, and I can understand them making it a pay to use. Or else it would always take forever for your turn too.

I'm just whining cuz I hate paying for extra stuff.

Slippery slope argument here, what if they say "oh, A-Line is taking a lot of our time to maintain, we're going to charge people an extra dollar a run on top of their ticket if they want to ride A-Line." I would like to think that the Airdome is included in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park that I buy a ticket to and isn't an addon.

Of course, this is just the opinion of a cheapass!

I for one think it's cheap. It should probably be more to keep the crowds
down. I think 20-30 jumps per hour is a more realistic number. That would
be 1 jump every 2 minutes. Remember, there's going to be guys like me...
41 y/o w/ 45lb bikes trying to get up out of the foam. They should have
a senior day/hour so us old farts can use it w/o being heckled by all the
young whipper snappers...:crybaby: What they need to do is keep the
number of users down so it doesn't get too crowded.

I for one think that they should probably make two or three more of these
things. Seeing that guy on what looked like a demo doing a seat grabs got
me thinking of trying it in a mid-life-crisis kind of way.

Yeah WBP:woot:

I like the sounds of a senior hour. Or, better, bad jumpers support group. They could call us the "Old Dogs Leaning New Tricks Club".

Dam, I was just at whistler yesterday. I knew what I saw was the airdome, never went in though. Dam I should have.

So, does it hurt when you "crash" into the foam, or is it just to soften
the blow. Also, does "supervision" mean someone there to yell at the
kids or is it like; "hey, you've got to let go of the bar to do a no hander!"
kind of supervision.

The pic on the main site? That's a girl, Hannah Steffens. I think she rides for Gary Fisher now. Her name is at the bottom, along with Sterling Lawrence's.

Usually no but, it will hurt if you throw the bike and then dive right on it.

Seems like it would be a good idea to sell it in hour long sessions. You buy 1 hours worth and go in with a limited amount of people. You cant go the following hour, but you can the hour after ? Sound decent ? Special days theres like 3hr sessions and stuff. Thatd be cool

The number of riders will be limited to about 20-25 per session. It should work well at that.
It might be rentable by groups in the future.
The pro riders that hit the pit said that it was the best/softest they have been in and some of them were pinning it in at full speed, going for double backs without ant problem/pain.

i was up there the other day checking it out . . . . . looks like a lot of fun . . . . might even flang myself into the pile .

i was helping the guys ( and hannah ) fetch their bikes out of the pit to speed things up . . . . for the guys who had it together they could drop in , huck , and be out of the pit in less than a minute , some a fair bit more .

that's about 60 riders in an hour , so any time you can save helps every one out .

be ready to go when it's your turn

unless you are hurt , don't lay there in the pit basking in the glory of your last flight

get into a stable position from where you can huck your bike over to some one who is waiting to pull it out of the foam . sometimes just flipping it over can get it to where it can be grabbed . easier for the grabber if he gets the bars and seat side , not wheels

help out the rider after you , if there isn't someone already there , makes a big difference in the time it takes to get out

have fun up there , and don't hurt yourselves . . . . i'd rather be watching than working

foam pits, or jumps into lakes (Water) are great for learning

with foam, you still gotta be careful and make sure you bail good

we had a bunch of skateparks here in the UK pull their foam pits following a series of neck / head injuries

foam is good, but not a substitute for mis-understanding of rotation or bad technique

supervised foam pits are the best, you can progress more safely and have someone spot what you are doing wrong and give you pointers:)
