I'm going up to Whistler this weekend and I'm not that good at biking and I can't say much for my bike either. I'm more familiar with Whistler when it's covered with snow but I would really like to get some runs in since I'm up there. If anyone knows of some easy-moderate runs let me know. I was thinking magic chair area?

I think MC is over on Blackcomb side? The trails are clearly marked. If in
doubt start on the green runs, if you're bored, go to the blue runs...if
you're still bored try some black diamonds, and if you're still bored shame
on you as you should know better...haha!

Start with EZ Does it..progress to Crank-it-up and then when that's dialed do B-Line to Heart of Darkness...had a lot of fun with the g/f doing these this week

I'm assuming that since I am going up with someone who lives in whistler they will know where most of these trails are right?

I would have to take a gander (love that word) and say at least 80% of people that actually 'live' in Whistler have never gone down the mountain in the summer, let alone sat their phat arse on a mountain bike.

It's pretty simple.

90% of riders are friendly.

Talk with someone and ask first-hand when you're up there.

Literally ask anyone you see walking/riding a mountain bike (unless it's from Walmart/Ctire).

Or you can :google: it !

... here's a play-by-play ...

Take the chair lift up ... when you disembark from the chair lift, take your bike from the low-wage nice liftie and then ride down the little wooden ramp. Immediately, turn RIGHT ! ->
You are now on 'EZ does it' ... Easy does it now ... ride and follow the >>> GREEN <<< signs and NOT any other colour.

When you hit the bottom and still have you nutz intact and your sausage in place, slap yourself on the ass and do it again.

Then, when you're bored of it ... try Crank it up .. a nice bluey-ish run ..

Have fun ya virgin ! :)

You forgot to tell him that he MUST not forget to thank the low-wage nice liftie when he takes the bike off the rack for him at the top.

Like a fat kid on a Smartie. ;)

Vag...assuming you have an XC bike, or something of that nature? Magic park is only $10.00 for all day. I took my 6 year old up there, and we had some fun. The runs are geared towards beginners, with a couple of steepish switchbacks, to give you the feel for the gravity side of the sport.

Outside of that, there are a lot of fun trails in the Lost Lake trail network. Get a map (most stores), and seek out some of the tougher runs.

This will get your feet wet. Once you've found you're ready, then you can go to the Bike Park.

My opinion on beginners in the WBP: there are a lot of, frankly, idiot self proclaimed super heroes that treat B-Line and Easy Does it like their personal highway. Those are supposed to be beginner runs, but you get many the yahoo riding through there w/ no consideration for the novice, thus ruining the experience for them.

I always get a giggle out of the guys in full DH rigs and armor that take 1 or 2 runs down B-Line to "warm up". Seriously, why? The fucking "warm up" is fully pinning it, then riding some poor bastards wheel somewhere in the middle. Nice warm up, tough guy...

^Yes, but doesn't the little sign at the top of the lift say take a warm up
run on one of those afore mentioned trail? Just playing devils advocate. I
have a great excuse to ride b-line as my first 1-2 runs. I go w/ my wife and
make sure she's doing good (bike setup, other issues, etc). Then when I'm
confident she's comfy, I head to the top and giv'er.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with pinning b-line or crank it up, but
you need to realize they are blue runs and if you catch up to someone, to
approach slowly as not to scare the poor newbies as thought you would a
small woodland creature new to the world. :fruit:

Yes, agreed. It's just funny...some of the "warm up" guys are just A-Line addicts who bring the same attitude over. It's funny, actually.

It is just a small segment of the B-Line user that has this attitude, but they are the dangerous ones, and the types that intimidate the newer rider to the park. There are dozens of Black and DB runs on the hill to be a hero on...why B-Line? It's like the "bully syndrome".

It's like surfers over here. You've got guys that surf Waikiki and act all
tough when they see a grom just trying to learn. But you never seem to
see them at Pipe or any of the other shallow spots. You only see them
on A-line cause you can ride a-line like crap and not get driven into the
reef, you never see those people on rock city or national etc where you
get spanked if you can't hang (I'm just a glutton for punishment).

It almost sounds like this thread is close to being another "jerks on a-line"
thread. What the hell, lets :deadhorse: (been waiting to use that one!)

Thanks for the good advice with magic chair and lost lake! I had a great time and I didn't waste my money on the bike park when I really couldnt ride much of it anyways. The runs were alot easier than the runs on burke at home so I really got a chance to improve my biking alot instead of struggeling down the hills like I do at home. I can even do the blue runs! next year I'll see you all on the real park :D
