So I am heading to Whistler this week and have done almost every run on the mountain except the following 5 runs on Garbanzo:

1. Goats Gully
2. Fatcrobat
3. D1
4. In Deep
5. Captain Safety

Any info anybody could share on these trails would be welcome (ie comparison to trails on the lower mountain or the other Garbanzo trails).

Thanks!!

it's almost the 5 best trails on the hill... THE combo is: O-sin/ goats gully/ captain safety/ in deep and the gap over the roller coaster/ after you can take fatcrobat to D1 but i prefer duffman freightrain or no duff to golden triangle or even side track... after i think goats gully is most intresting and technical trail on the park, specially if you take all the short cuts... so much fun... after it's just easy...

For some reason I've been riding on and off since the start of the season and never hit that line.

Go figure. I'll have to do it this week sometime.

How does goat's, in deep and capitain compare to other trails ?

Goats Gully and D1 are pretty rad.. I wish they were both longer!

I don't know if I'm a fan of the rock armouring around some of those corners in Goat's Gully. I used to try so hard to clear that sharp right-hander around the tree. The next ride after I finally cleaned it, it was as smooth as a driveway.

That's a tricky one.. Just come in high and shred it.. and do it with speed.. cause if you're on the brakes you slide out and nuke yourself on the rocks:(

Thanks for the info so far! So what is this line comparable to on the bottom???

Lets use Clownshoes OR Schleyer (your pick) as as comparison. Is it:

a) more technical
b) less technical
c) about the same

GG, In Deep, and Captain Safety = more tech than Clownshoes or Schleyer. Schleyer is fast & flowy, packed with stunts and hits. The ones I mentioned above are more natural and it takes a few rides to flow 'em. No big drops or challenging skinnies like the ones on Clownshoes, either.

Fatcrobat is easy peasy but super fun. D1 is prolly the hardest trail on the mountain to flow, IMO. Jumps with not much room for error because the trees are so tight. It's a short tail.

Awesome trails, though. Enjoy!

I am really anxious to try Fatcrobat out (with all the wood!). So is the correct route Original Sin - Goats Gully - Fatcrobat??

Is Goats Gully the only way to get to Fatcrobat? I have seen this entrance before, just have never entered it.

Thanks All!

i believe you have to do in deep to get to fatcrobat, the sucky part is you have to head down bear cub :( to get to in deep, however, i highly recommend both trails. i believe goats leads into in deep, but i didn't like goats and have never done d1.

goats gully is probably the hardest trail on the whole mountain but its fun so is original sin.

Fatcrobat is dope with the basic, but loong log rides, not bad at all.

captin safty is pretty short, has a step rock face that has a off camber turn in the middle of it. D1 is like dirt merchant with bigger jumps and narrow single track inbetween. There is a big hip to a step up with a wooden lip.

Freight Train only, and poaching roads in between to link trails.
Bumps are for chumps we just wanna hit jumps. Techy rock is too
rough. :flame: on

To me, Goat's gully is the more challenging trail on the mountain but I like it so much. Fatcrobat is so funny but not very technical. I can't ride Clownshoes but I can ride Fatcrobat without problems. I'm not very familiar with the wood stunts and that's the reason why Clownshoes is not in my skills.

10 days to go before riding Whistler, I can't wait :)

Yeah Cervo, they had Pete Morin in there around the biginning of Crankworx, and it is dumbed down now. Not nearly as frightening as before. Agree, too bad.

OS to GG to Capt Safety to In deep to fatcrobat to too tight to schleyer to joyride to hoD is my favorite trail linkup. There's enough gnar to keep anyone challenged

and Goats Gully has had those 2 corners buffed so its pretty easy now. Yesterday I took a breather after the final hairpin and looked up only to discover a new rockface roll. Looks like a nice tech move. Stoked to try it next time.

OK, I'll give Goats Gully a whirl if I get a chance. I am not really into the Clownshoes, etc. riding either, like a post above, but I will do them (usually once a trip). I prefer the high speed berms, huge jumps, big hucks, as opposed to the slower, tires on the ground "tech" riding.

This corner, I am picturing something difficult to make around if your line is not right??? I ride a Demo 9, so slow speed, tight stuff does not bode well. Only one way to find out I guess??

So given my style, what are the suggestions .... GG or in Deep??

Thanks all for the input!

Demo is low and long but to put it all in perspective I was riding it all on a 4" 4x bike and my buddy was on a v10 so I think you should be fine on a demo9.

All of the jump trails are all beat to shiza right now. I probably won't go backup until the early fall when it rains enough to get a buff.

am sad... is it still doable to drop off the bridge, after that corner... and is the steep short cut line after on the rock face with the 90 degrees corner at the bottom still ridable???

Hope it's all going to be buffed out when it rains .... SOON !

I think the jump trails are in pretty good shape. The usual culprits have the usual potholes and ruts (right before the rock garden on A-Line, the lower part after dirt merchant, just after the rock drop, right before the bridge and right after the rock roll on DM) but in general is good.

Freight train was pretty beat on the upper sections. Lower parts were alright.

D1 I didn't ride because I heard it was in bad shape, they took some of it out to lay some pipe (the big table with the wallride).

Ya, I can't believe they did that to that corner. Weak sauce!

^^^ Most tech line on the hill -> paved just like the rest.

It's a double black trail folks, no one was getting hurt on it, why make it easier?

If you like the a-line/DM style riding, then Goat's may not make you too happy. It's a nice steep-slow tech trail.

Only one way to know really... everyone has their own opinions on their favorite runs, but ya never know until you try ....

So, my advice... give it a try.

And your bike will be plenty.

I'm riding an '05 A-line (low BB) and don't scrape often up there.

I just got back from riding today and I stayed on Orig Sin to Goat's to In Deep to Fatcrobat to D1 to DM to lower Aline and just did that over and over today.

I can't move my fingers but ya can't wipe that smile off my face.

Not a single bail. :)

You cannot beat Org sin to goats gully to in deep to little alder to D1 iMO. Goats has been made a lot easier recently - they did some work to the rock chute a while back and now they have done some maintenance to the other turns on the trail - it is actually running quite quick at the moment. You can get a HT down it and it is not too tight to get a demo 9 or similar down it either - so youŽll have no problems.

Well unfortunately I did not get a chance to ride this line, but maybe later this week (hoping!). My usual riding partner experienced a few "technical difficulty's" (shattered derailleur) on his bike, so that left me alone with my wife, who is a very good rider, but maybe not ready for this line yet.

I don't want to be the one who encourages her to try it, only to face the repercussions later :grinno: You guys who ride with your wife can relate to this statement.:agree:

I did not want to do it alone, so hopefully I'll get a chance later this month again.
