Bussing to whistler

I always hear of everyone just hopping on a greyhound and going to whistler, but after just calling whistler it apprears that your bike has to be in a box?
is this true? is there a buss company that doesnt make you box your bike? and whats the best way to go about bussing to whistler?

bum a ride off someone from the bb, give them gas money, beers, green, whatever. then you got someone to talk to and ride with, and it still works out cheaper.

ive never had to use a box, but i've been turned away because of storage before. sometimes they charge you 5 bucks to stash it underneath, but some drivers don't for some reason.
