I am going to be putting this bike, or something similar together over the next year or so, and would like some suggestions of anything that I can improve. I also have some various questions about certain aspects.
Without further ado, the build:
DRIVE TRAIN
Race Face X-Type Diabolous BB Cups
Race Face Diabolous Cranks (175 mm)
Crank Bros. 50/50 pedals
SRAM X-9 medium cage rear derailleur
SRAM X-9 shifter
AVID flak jacket derailleur cables and housing
SRAM PC970 11-32 cassette
SRAM PC991 9-speed chain
Race Face Diabolous chain guide
WHEELS
Hadley 20 mm Front hub
Hadley 150 mm Rear hub
Mavic EX729 rims
DT Swiss Champ spokes
DT Swiss nipples
Kenda Nevegal tires
haven't decided if I want to go tubeless or not
BRAKES
Avid Juicy 5 203 mm
FRAME/SEAT/SEAT POST/FORK
Marzocchi 66 RCX2 -OR- Marzocchi 888 RCX2 -- can't decide between single or dual crown
Cove Shocker frame
WTB Speed-V Pro gel saddle
Thomson 330 mm 30.0 seatpost -- or something similar
HANDLEBAR/HEADSET/STEM/GRIPS
Race Face Diabolous Stainless headset
Race Face Diabolous Stem
Race Face Diabolous 31.4 riser bar -- may go 25.4
ODI lock-on Ruffian grips -OR- some other locking grips -- I'm not too particular on this
First off, is there anything I'm forgetting?
Secondly, are Hadley hubs compatible with Saint brakes? I had a look around, and tried a couple google searches, but I couldn't find any info on that. I would almost prefer to run Saint over Avid, but I haven't really decided.
I'm also thinking of maybe the 721 rims instead of 729, but again, I am undecided. I'm also oncerned that I don't really ride well enough to deserve such a bike, but I figure I will progress quite a bit more this summer/fall on my hardtail, and by the time I am good enough it will be finished.
Feedback?

different pedals, e.13 chainguide is what i would suggest. saint brakes will work with hadley hubs if you get the 6 bolt disks instead of the splined ones.
and personally i would get the 888 instead of the 66.

Syncros mental pedals over the 5050's.....E-13 Guide instead of diabolous....Chris King headset instead of Raceface....Definately go 729 over 721. for the added strength its worth the weight difference (but thats for weight weenies anyway!)....i agree with jake the trog; go 888 over 66.....also tubeless is worth doing...lose a fair bit of rotational mass, maybe even try some 2.5 kevlar folding nevegals instead of wire bead, that would cut down on weight and from what ive heard they've had good reviews....Have you thought about juicy 7's instead of 5's?? i think the 7's would be more efficient stoppers for that bike...
...Thats just my opinion but all in all it looks like a good build up :)

Aren't the 7s the same as the 5s but with the external dial?
I would get a FSA Pig DH headset. Very inexpensive and lasts a long time. E-13 Guide. Easton flat bars (or whatever the closest is they get to flat). 888 instead of 66.
I believe you'll need a shock to enjoy the bike... DHX 5.0.

Could be....i think the 7's have better internals in the caliper and master cylinder though. still the pad adjust is awesome.
EDIT: Yea funkendrenchman, the 7's and 5's are the same except 7's have pad adjust.....my mistake

on a bike like the shocker, a dual crown is prolly a good choice.
running J5's on my bike, they stop nicely.
looks like a crazy nice build, don't worry about not "deserving" it - it's your bike to ride and dress as you like...

i'd take single crown on the shocker.
7" is more then enough for tha bike.
plus the versitility you'd have with it would be crazy.
id actually like to see how'd it work out

i suggest you stop calling it your "dream bike"
When i was building up my last bike, for about 2 weeks i thought it was just that... My dream bike. Untill better parts came out in a couple weeks, then my preference on some things began to change along with my riding hahah!! But thats how it goes in biking.....

I have just built a cove shocker with 66RC2X's on it - I'll try and get some pics up for you.
Cracked my ASX just behind the headtube, all the way across the toptube - so I needed a new frame. Baby blue shocker was sitting on the wall in Evolution...couldn't resist
Had a few problems with my 66SL. The zocchi tent here in whistler tried a rebuild - turned it into a half coil/half air fork (doppio swapped out for ETA cart). This failed halfway down freight train so they gave me a brand new 66RC2X - now that is good service.
It is a big step up from my ASX - it feels super planted and rails like nothing. Lots of the pro Cove guys are running them with Totems up here as well as DC's...

FunkenDrenchman: When buying the frame only it comes with a DHX 3.0 (I think). I wish I still had the email from Cove about that.
sampo: Do you mind me asking how much you paid for the frame? Did it come with a shock?
Chunk: My other hobby is building high end computers, so in comparison to those, bikes move really slowly as far as new parts.
Thanks for the suggestions all. But, I do have a few more questions (some of them silly).
With the e13 vs. Diabolous guide, are the e13 significantly more functional? Or is the look of them preferred amongst those that recommended them?
Will I need different rims to run tubeless? And with wheels, is there any significant advantage to running 36 spokes instead of 32?

Yes and no. If you want factory default tubless..yes. If you wanted to go ghetto tubless, then no.
36 is stronger, but is there any significant advantage? No. 32 saves you weight, and with a good wheel builder, you won't have any sacrificing of strength between the two.

The main difference between e13 and diablous from what i gather is the weight, that and the fact that E13 make some of the best guides on the market, they do there job exelent, i havent met 1 person taht is disapointed with thier E13 guide.
It depends how you want to go about tubeles. you can do the ghetto tubeless if not you have to buy a UST rim, for that i highly reccomend my 823 i love mine, they are fairly strong too, not to mention they are light! but if the 823 is to much money for your taste. go with something like the 721 wit the ghetto tubeess

I like Anti-Trail-Nazi's suggestions. I would suggest 170mm cranks over 175mm. I was worried about it when I got my "dream" bike since I am really tall and had always ridden 175's. The 170's have actually reduced the number of pedal hits I get on any given ride by quite a lot, and I don't notice the difference in pedaling the bike.
Go Saint with the brakes for sure (or Magura Gustav's) - I ride with a few people who jumped on the Avid train last year and all kinds of problems are cropping up with them.
The Boxxer Team is a GREAT fork. I would not hesitate to go with it. Make sure you look into the Fox DHX 5, or if you have the $, an Avalanche or Cane Creek Double Barrell for the rear. Oh, instedad of the Syncros Mentals (which, granted, are really nice) I'd go for something cheaper and a good pair of shoes, like 5-10 Impacts. Granted, I've always considered pedals to be sort of disposable. I'm having great luck with a pair of Welgo B-67s right now.

does the LG1 have an outer plate? Or just the exposed chain/ring?
