View Full Version : New Pedals - don't seem to fit?

I just picked up my new Giant Faith2 - seems like a sweet ride, but the stock pedals are like porcelain shoes on ice (read slippery). I wanted to take the Kona Jack Shit pedals off my Stuff and put them on the Giant but they seem to have a different mounting system.
On the Giant, with Race Face DH cranks, it seems that there is a bolt that comes in from the back of the crank to the pedal where on the Kona pedals they seem to screw in to the crank arm. Am I missing something here or should they fit?
Thanks

You're missing something.
All cranks and pedals attach in the same manner. The pedal threads into the crankarm.
Sometimes, you'll have to use an Allen wrench from the back side of the crank to thread and unthread the pedal, but most pedals have slots to fit a 15mm pedal wrench on the outside.
This could be what's causing you confusion.
Be careful that you put the correct pedal (they'll be labeled L and R) into the correct crank arm, because there are reverse threads involved.

some cranks also have a threaded insert, so if that came out on the pedal, well theres another possibility.

NooNer - I think you are spot on. The Kona pedals seem to have an outer insert treaded on to the post that would need to be removed to fit on the Evolv cranks. THis does not look like something I can do with my limited tools without killing the insert - which I will need to put the other pedals on my stuff.
Guess I will just have to ride with the stock pedals tomorrow.

Cramd, I had this issue a couple years ago and could not for the life of me get the aluminum insert off the pedal axle. I went to my LBS to see what they could do about it, Turns out its a big issue and I got a brand new set of cranks from Truvativ free of charge(warrenty) and my LBS installed them for free. I had the problem again so I put some Red loctite on the threads of the insert, threaded it back into the arm and waited a couple days... the pedal axle came free this time instead of the insert.

Just put threadlocker on the pedal insert threads and put it back in the crank for a day. Then remove the pedal and it should be sans insert. Worked for me anyway.
