We are four brothers who live way up north (Mackenzie). 11,13,15 and 16 yrs. Will be down in Van for holidays. Want to try some freeriding on the shore. Been riding Norcos for about a year, but just some flat trails and dirtjumping. Need a good trail for beginners to try out downhilling and stuff. Also might be in Kamloops. Any suggestions?

pipleline, cbc, neds are not beginner trails for people who have never ridden the shore. I have seen so many beginners walking their bikes down those trails because someone told them they were "easy". they may be easy to those who ride those mountains on a regular basis but they are not beginner level.
best bet is SFU (burnaby mountain) before hitting the shore.

Those are good suggestions to be sure.
A map might be a good idea as well and be prepared to ask for directions or even try to find someone to help you find your way.
Good luck!

I heard you can get maps at bike shops around the area.

Yes any bike shop will have them. You may also want to consider hiring a local guide service.
If that's not an option post a couple of days before your ride day and see if someone would be willing to take you guys up riding. But if a guy named Synchro (on the boards) replies RUN RUN RUN!!! Careful he offers ham sandwiches to entice his victims...

Don't forget the trails in the Lower Seymour Conservation area.

On Fromme, Bobsled, floppy bunny, Natural High, King of the shore, and Griffin. All are nice trails for beginners. They are short, relatively smooth, and easy to get to.
I would avoid Pipeline until you've become comfortable on the above trails. Pipeline is not as easy as some may have you believe.
If you can get your parents to fork up the cash, while you're in Kamloops hit sunpeaks.

HaHaHa Cash!! Do any of these trails have the jumps, teeter totters and rails like we've seen in the videos? Can a beginner ride those kinds of trails?

I think someone put in a sick new handrail on cbc. It's like a 12 set.

Just an idea. While your here take some time to check out the stuff that has been built. Maybe take some pictures of stuff like teeters.
Then you can build your own trails to ride back in Mackenzie.

When do you guys plan on comming? I am going in for knee surgery tomorrow so in 4-6 weeks I will be looking to do so slower, easier rides and could show you around.
I say if you have ridden a mountain bike before, Neds is a good guage as to the other trails you could try. Few small drops both natural and man made, (1'-5' high), used to have a jump, not sure what it looks like now, and some skinnies, 1 teeter, a few steeper, rough tech sections (realatively speaking).
You will probably still walk a few sections but so be it, it will still be a good judge of your ability.
Post in the ride planning section closer to the day or pm me.
Making suggestions when you don't know the skill level of the riders is very difficult, particularly as there are a couple of relatively young riders in the group.
The easiest trails on Fromme are Roadside Attraction, Griffin and King of the Shore, but there are very few man made structures on these (King has a nice wide skinnie and a small A frame) If you can ride these trails without having to walk around anything then you could probably try Pipeline which has a lot of the cool features you are looking for, skinnies (not too narrow), tetter totter and roller coasters (wood and rock). If you can ride all of pipeline then you could ride a lot of the single black trails and the world is your oyster.
I think most bike shops on the north shore carry maps. You can also find maps on the NSMBA web site, follow this link:

Why not join up while you are there, it does not cost you anything unless you want to donate something.

Thanks for all the info. We will be down by the weekend, probably for a week or two. We will definitely try some of these suggestions. We have been working on some trails up here, built a couple of things, will check out the stuff down there for more ideas.

Well hello hello hello! Who are you? I am Jeff Brooks (They Guy with the Devinci), maybe you know me?
I would be more than willing to help build some trails and ride if you guys would be willing to help me build some stunts I would sure be appreciative. No one that I know in this town really has the motivation to build. I really want to build alot of stuff, have'nt done too much as you've probably noticed, but I would like to get lots of stuff built up, the long hauls down south to ride are wearing thin, gets too tiring for me driving all day to go riding the next just to have to come back again for work.
Anyhoo PM me whenever if you wish.
Best of luck on the hunt for some good riding.
-Jeff

Just to thank everyone for their help. The dudes at Caps in Poco were very helpful. We started with some beginner rides on Burke and at SFU, then hit Mt Fromme hard. Intense! Everyone was friendly, showed us where to ride and we had a blast. A few tumbles, but no broken bikes or bones. We'll be back.
