View Full Version : What's going on with Grannies and Upper Crippler

was up fromme this afternoon, took a quick hike down grannies and crippler to see what was going on, doesnt seem anybody has been down there for a while....nice new MEC sign, but like i said, no sign of any riding...

Just wondering if anyone knew if there was a particular reason these two trails have been left alone, is it a municipal thing? builder/maintainer left?

Does anyone think these trails should be given a rebirth?

cheers

Im a pretty big fan of leaving them the way they are. nice tech natural lines.

My group rode Grannies on Saturday... man that trail kicks my ass... pure love

There are a few sections that are mandatory hike-a-bikes but the rest of it is attainable for a strong technical rider (not me).

Lower Crippler rocks... man the work on there is great.

Those trails blow and should be shot like sick dogs. Just like Ladies they should die. and you're wrong - they're on Seymour

my thoughts were more revolving around upper crippler, grannies was always an average trail, but upper crippler entices me, but some of the built up stuff seemed a little unstable these days....

building on upper crippler is weak, don't even bother cuz you'll be riding around it all.

Upper Crippler is a myth, don't even bother!

theres a reason no one works on those ... old school slow speed rooty tech ... not really most people's cup of tea

Those two trails are in the top 5 on the shore.... for worst trails I mean. ;)

they were shut down after the district found red legged frogs on them.

oh well.

7th and UOC are much better anyway!

pretty much.

unless you ride fromme nearly daily, and are totally bored, its a lot more fun to hit the better trails like pipline, espresso, upper/lower oilcan, 7th/krikum and even ladies only. all of these are in much better condition as they've been looked after more.

some people may disagree with this, but those are usualy the type of people who like to ride down rock creek beds for fun ;)

they are alive and well - no rebirth needed

Can anyone actually clean Grannies? Because it seems to me that there is 1 or 2 spots that are completely unrideable, but perhaps they're just so far beyond my level of riding that they seem undoable to me.

I'm not suggesting that anyone rock in the rooty sections, but if there ARE bits that have gotten totally unrideable, wouldn't it make sense to restore them to the point where a good rider wouldn't have to hike-a-bike?

I have no time to do it, so don't worry about me going up and paving Grannies. Just my thoughts on this thread.

Ive cleaned it and I suck.

two ninja moves are the up and over ultra techy roll over the log followed by a second one

Second one is the corner on the climb where your on the cliffband. tight corner requies some hopping.

Ya, those are the spots I was thinking of. Never mind... As you were..

Grannies is awesome the way it is. There is no Upper Crippler.

You know its a funny thing the whole dumbing down a trail thing . personaly Id be sad to see those two moves dumbed down. They are nasty challanges that I have overcome, even though I often dont make them. When you do you feel like a king.

On the other hand th e Cherry Bomb got dumbed down (by someone adding the ever so slightest tranny at the bottom) Its still a gnarly move but I love hitting it now as do most of my friends where none of us would ever try it before. I know a few guys who were sad to see it dumbed down.

i've heard that you can clean it if you close one eye

Hey Chin , the secret to the skinny to gnarly roll is to spring off the top and use your speed when you land to force yourself over the second one. think of it as one move not two.

If you try to roll it slow you die.

I wasnt suggesting "dumbing down" either of the trails, and not so interested in grannies, i agree leave the roots and natural feel, but there were fallen trees across the trail etc

and as for upper crippler, the stunts seemed pretty rotten and unstable

essentially my point to this entire thread was just wondering why these two trails seemed to have been "forgotten" in comparison to all the other trails up there

Pinkstarfish still my fav
