I think an old friend of mine was killed riding his bike in Langley on Wednesday/Thursday.

Friday's Province has an article, but only subscribers are allowed to read it.

Anyone interested in emailing me the article?

Cyclist had no ID

Jul 09 2006

Langley RCMP have not yet released the name of a cyclist who was hit and killed almost instantly by a car on 200 Street Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that an older Buick was travelling south on 200 Street in the far right turning lane near 83 Avenue, when it hit the cyclist from behind. The cyclist, who appeared to be a man in his late 20s, was also travelling south, riding close to the curb in the same lane.

The cyclist succumbed to his injuries before police and ambulance arrived. The 82-year-old Buick driver from Burnaby was not injured in the collision, said police.

Langley RCMP’s traffic services are currently conducting all their necessary inquiries and their preliminary investigation does not indicate that alcohol was a factor in the collision.

The cyclist was wearing a helmet and proper cycling gear at the time of collision. He wasn’t carrying any identification.

Further details will be released once the identity of the cyclist has been determined and next of kin have been notified. That portion of 200 St. was closed off for several hours.

Police ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken to them to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
