i used to ride up there on a single speed hard tail, its fun. only havin one break should be ok depending on what trails you do, theres not too many really steep sections

You'll be fine...

It's quite the workout on a ss.

please dont ride the trails with only ONE break.

the trails are pretty loose and dry and dusty right now. you'd be all over the place with only a back break on the steeper sections, and there is pretty much NO fromme trail that does not have steep sections at some point.

if you have a front break then you'd be all set. but as is, you'd be doing yourself and the trails a favor to hold off until you have one.

I second the plea to not ride fromme with one brake.

Youll just rip the piss out of the trails...

Thanks!

We rode with a guy who broke his rear brake on Executioner...

he's a really good rider and he wasn't too anxious to do that again!

Okay I also have a chromo singlespeed hardtail with one brake, dual 24"s, and I would say yes, but you need to put on a front brake. I rode Fromme a couple times this week(first times ever and it was awesome!!), and I don't think it is worth it to try with only a back break. If anything put the brake on the front and do it front only. Also you will be walking all the way up, except for maybe one or two places that are flat enough to ride for about 20 seconds. As for trails I would suggest 7th Secret to Pipeline, felt really good on my hardtail, and nothing too steep. have fun :)

shar its a street bike so would be rear brake only. Yes - put on a front brake just for this ride.

superman has it right - ease in to it and it'll be fine. You'll have a blast

definitely put on a front brake, it would be really tough to ride without skidding with just a rear. And skidding = :nono:

you haven't seen any riders because you haven't gone to the mountains yet. you'll meet lots up fromme. i would definitly throw on a front brake first.

I've blown a front brake line at a trailhead on Fromme. The ride down was an educational experience, and I wouldn't choose to do it again.

Please everyone - it's a brake - not a break.

Riding Fromme with only a rear brake is a bad idea and near impossible in many sections - no matter how good you are. I have been forced to try this before and it just doesn't work.

Get a v brake or something up front and you'll actually be able to ride.

i rode two full runs of fromme with only a front brake last year on my hardtail when i my rear brake blew at the top of UOC on the first lap. good times but i'd say its easier with a front brake than just a rear brake. as stated above, PLEASE don't ride with just a rear brake because you'll brutalize the trails.
