Ive been riding the mace knee pads for about a week now, i wanted to just ride knee pads cause i just thought that the worst that could happen from a shinning is just a little cut.
Well yesterday riding mexican ninja up a vedder mountain my foot slipped off the pedal on the drop on the stepup line and i ended up with 13 stiches
looks like im gonna im gonna go get a new pair of shin pads lol

When I want to ride light I wear only shin pads. If it's a trail where I'm not going to crash all I want is the protection against slipping a pedal. Had this happen too many times to ride without pads. Shins and my head are the only part that I just won't ride without protecting. All the other stuff is optional...

Agreed... unless I know that I am going to attempt something big... probably considered small to mattj... I armour up. I find that it makes me feel invincible and then I do stupid stuff!
i used to have a nice pair of lizardskin shin pads, i wore them more then my helmet.

several years ago i got 21 stitches from slipping a pedal in a parking lot. pedal sliced down, leg reflexed up.
Ultimate combo is Hoots Knees + cheepo soccer shins.

It's getting way to hot for full leg armour for me, I've been rocking out with the knee pads for a while, no bad happenings as of yet.

All I have to do to convince myself that my shin armour is a good thing is to take a close look at all the scratches, dents and cuts in the plastic.....I never felt a single ill effect of any of the incidents leading up to them. Since I am such a hack rider and distinctly afraid of pain, I am stickin' wid da armour.

the hoots fr knee/shin combo is unbeatable. the knee protection is second to none and the shin guards are the only bike pads I've seen with real calf protection (i.e. not just a thin layer of mesh that will tear, like on the roach dh pads). there's an actual hard plastic plate, which is nice for protecting my legs from my sharp syncros pedals:P. I haven't experienced any of the pain of pedal slips since I bought them. :)

I wear my 661 elbow pads on my shins...they are super light and are good for the hot weather.
