Looking at double rings guide for a Cove Stiffee frame that does not come with ISCG mounting.. Any advice on which double ring guide (MRP, Blackspire, E-13 or just the Stinger from Blackspire) should I get with an understanding that I might migrate to a new full suspension frame next year. :announce:

I've got an E.13 and a Blackspire Dewlie. They both work good, I've been running the Dewlie problem free for almost 3 years on 4 different bikes. The E.13 is new for me this year. The Dewlie took some tweaking, the E.13 was good right out of the box.

I have an E13 DRS and no complaints from me yet. Seems to work really well.

I have an E-13. I was told by my good friends to get either the E-13 or a shitty one. i.e. all other dual ring chain retainers were crappy in comparison. The only problem with mine on the VP Free is when I smack it on a log it gets pushed into contact with the swing arm.

i have the stinger and it is great. love the all black and that it comes in both styles of mounting. it was cheap to, twenty bucks. it is very similar to the lrp by mrp. only thing is that it doesn't come with a bash guard, which for me didn't matter.

blackspire cnc and hand makes there in vancouver, there stronger then the mrp, and work better, and quitely.

there's also the old chainring sandwich with a granny on the inside. Its cheap and quiet with no added drag but it'll drop the chain if the terrain gets really fast and rough so I'd recommend it only if you spend most of your time on the Shore

Do tell more. I tried two rock rings on either side of a 34T middle ring, and the inside rock ring just hit the frame (Kona Cowan).

Check out the Envy setup for that. Nice thin inner plate.

I'm running the Envy sandwich on an '03 Sasquatch and it works awesome.

It's called the Envy "Inner E"
~ $30

Totally awesome setup. It doesn't, of course, have any tensioning mechanism or rollers, but I rarely have a chain fall off. For the first year and a half that I used it I never dropped a chain. Its so simple, nothing can really break on it, unlike roller chainguides. That said, for DH styles you probly want the real deal.

Apparently the Stinger can transformed into a single guide too using a 'Inner E' type ring called the Blackguard...

Stingers... http://www.blackspire.com/chain-guides/stinger

Blackguard... http://www.blackspire.com/chain-guards/blackguard

Fits up to 40T too.

I just installed an Envy centerplate. $35 at JH. Just needed 5 ring spacers and two bb spacers.

Should be good for low speed (I know no other riding style) technical stuff.

Great poseur setup. Looks like a single ring!

why no shiftguide?

why no shiftguide?

You can only run the envy inner plate if you run one ring up front only. Some people bolt a granny ring to the inside of the inner plate, and change it over manually for an uphill ride.

Some frames just dont work well, usually those with hella mud clearance, or really short c/stays. I'd guess that cowan was in the second camp there.
