I just ordered one of these and I think I should have ordered one of these...did I screw up or will I get away with it? there was a big price difference, that's why i did it. Damn I wish bike shops would get their act together to stop everyone in Canada getting ripped off. Wouldn't have to mail order stuff

what i ordered

same diametre? if so then it's all good. i would even say that the newer rotor would "clean" the pads better. although i doubt it's a problem, what's more impt is that the all the pad's material contacts the rotor's surface.

The ones you ordered are the NEWER version of the Hayes rotor. No worries. Its called the Mudcutter rotor and looks way more pimp anyway than the older one! So you did not screw up at all. Will work just fine.

$32 US = $40 CAN max. I've always wondered why Hayes rotors cost $80 here.

you can buy a avid hydrolic lever wholesale for half the price of a hayes
for replacements.

exactly...it's stupid. plus they're tax free by post. 60 CAD by post versus 92 CAD from a shop here (that's including Mr C^&sucker's promised 1%GST cut next month)

I tried the cutter rotors, and they made more noise. Haven't figured out why yet. If anyone else had the same issue and was able to resolve it, I'd be happy to hear about it.

has anyone tried these MEC specials: Delta Aztec 203mm (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444258 8207&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302693485&bmUID=1150731428173)? $39...how much cleverness can there abbe behind a rotor...well, apart from squeaking

The ones you ordered were the new hayes rotors, they're suppose to have more stopping power (surface area). Just keep them.

The old Hayes rotors also had an issue of wearing out faster in the center causing premature failure and/or uneven pad wear. Keep the newer ones.

the $39 mec rotors work well enough for me

that is a great question. My first rotors on my hopes snapped at the lightning bolts; the gothics caused uneven pad wear, and the orig avid rotors that came with the juicys produced a squeal that was so loud, you could clear the entire habitat on any mountain.

...must be lots of cleverness required.

Keep the one you ordered. Looking at the increased surface area (the wavy outer shape) suggests that it may dissipate heat slightly better (and, theoretically, stop you slightly better).

so whilst I'm waiting for the new hayes rotor, I got impatient and picked up a MEC special. I'm not sure what the prblem is, but it sure doesn't have the braking power I had before. Had to hit the eject button and fly into some bushes TWICE in the first few minutes cos I was hitting corners way to fast...no stopping power at all.

Do the discs need bedding in? I'll bleed he brakes tonight anyhow and see what happens...

did you put new pads on as well?

Yes pads do need to "bed in" as they say. Usually multiple hard stops will usually take care of this. If you are using old pads, they will have a less than flat face that will not align properly with the face of the rotor.

Got a new 8" hayes rotor? - I need one of those too. PM me.

My avid rotors need to go. I got 4 of em if anyone's looking.
