View Full Version : Ringle rear hub service?

I've got a 12X150 rear Ringle hub. It's in need of serious work. Axle is out of whack (possibly broken), 3 out of 4 bearings are seized (have to run it ridiculously loose just so it coasts), and the tightening mechanism for the axle is so worn out it doesn't stay tight. Pawls are starting to go too...

Basically the only good thing about the hub is the body. Is it worth repairing?

Are the bearings in the freehub even replaceable?

Is this something I can do myself? I took off the freehub and the bearings are pressed into it and it's steel and it doesn't look like there's anything else I can unscrew to give access to the bearings so I can press/punch them out.

Do any of the bike shops do this service fast and affordable?

Thanks for any feedback.

A new hub is not cheap...I would shop around and try to get it fixed

I had the same hub on my Demo 9 and had problems with it. The hub is completely rebuildable and the customer service with Sun/Ringle is great .... just call their number listed on the website or drop them an email. I had questions and someone called me up to walk me through it.

However, the hub developed a problem where tightening the rear wheel caused the hub to not freewheel. I was so fed up I replaced it.

The bearings are relatively easy to get out but they are costly. They cost nearly $15-20/each from local bearing suppliers.

Bottom line .... if you're not attached to it and have the money, get a new hub.
