i found a very small crack in my dhr. turner said that thay wont have eny size small dhr's untill the end of the year. but thay said i could get a size small highline. i want to race this summer, panorama is in a week. but i also like to do alot of freeride. should i just ride the crack untill the end of the summer, then warrenty for a highline?

Riding a cracked frame is usually pretty sketchy. Where is the crack?

the highline looks pretty sick andrew. can you ride a highline till they get the dhr's in stock?

Like your quick wit, Corey - your posts throughout these BB are among my favs - it's gold, Jerry, gold...

Speaking of favs, Wayne Parsons knows his stuff damn well, I printed some of his gems and put it in my maintenance book as reference material.

i would love to compare those to bikes. i'm curious if the loss of the horst link would equal a loss in performance. the highline looks like it could be an awesome do-it-all bike.

even though i have ridden neither, i wish they would have kept the horst link.

I'd take the highline over the dhr personally. you only lose .5" of travel, and it looks better for more all around freeriding, including your schoolhouse hucks.

it's only a 1/2" of travel differance but the highline weighs about 2 lbs less, which could be nice

the biggest difference is that the dhr has a 3" stroke shock, and the highline only has a 2.5".

you sure about that? although a few people on the net are running a 2.5 it will only net 7.2 of travel. i believe to get the 8 you'll be running a 2.75?

i could be wrong though?

Well, don't be too modest, bud - your technical advice is usually bang on - i.e. 5th shock, tires, etc. I could never get the 5th to feel "right", no matter what I tried, once it was Parsons'd it was like a new, different shock. Keep'em coming.:fu:

it's cracked on the shock mount peice right where it meets the top tube'ish peice.

i might take a pic latter.

Dude, I think you have answered your own question. Picture the shock mount piece snapping off after a big landing. Bike comes up, bike goes down, shock compresses, mounts snap, and you keep going down head first.

I would not risk it as is.

I have a hard time thinking it would snap off, but then, why is it cracking in the first place? It must be under a lot more load than is apparent.

warranty it for a medium.....

When I bought this bike I looked at every DH bike out there. And one of the main reasons I picked this one is the size. I’m 5'5" and I like a bike that fits on the smaller side. Most size small DH bikes are around a 17" seat tube and a 21-22" top tube. That’s the size my giant DH team was, and I found it to be a little big. The dhr is a 15" seat tube and a 20.3" top tube. And it fit perfectly. I also picked the dhr because of the low leverage ratio, 1.5” head tube, single pivot with linkage design, and the remote res on the DHX 5.0.

I wanted to use the dhr for two race seasons. I think I’ll just wait until the end of the summer then decide if I should take the highline of wait for the size small dhr.

Mmmm having seen it that's a tough call. Appears to be strongly supported on the bottom still. Looks more of a frame flexing crack than an impact crack.

** Sweet remote reservoir DHX though!!!

i had a size small giant, not the extra small. i think the xs giant is a 14.5" with a 20 or 21" top tube.

hm didnt realize the smalls were so small my bad. I would stick to that frame, watch the crack closley, keep in contact with turner and send it in for warranty when it either gets too sheisty to ride or they get some smalls in (which ever comes first)
