Need new bars after my crash. I bent my FSA's up pretty good. Top two choices going are RF Diabolus or Tru Vativ Holzfeller's? I thought about the FSA Carbon bars, but not sure about carbon on a 50 lb DH rig. Are they stronger or just lighter?

I was also thinking about Answer Pro Taper, although I have no experience with them.

Thoughts? Reccomendations?

They will be oversize and going on my DH rig so the burly'er the better.

I have Holzfellers, and they're pretty beefy. I guess I'd recommend them, but to me, a bar is a bar.

Answer Protaper has a 10 year warrenty no questions unless you hacksaw it. And its one of the lightest bar ive ever used.

One downside, its fucken expensive.

I love the feel of my Deity bar, seems to be strong so far, feels nice and stiff. But I have only been riding it for a few months.

Easton EA-70 in 31.8mm = perfect :agree:

Either the EA70's or the chromags...I think they will be my next bars.

Easy Choice ... I would go with the Easton EA70 O/S bars (hands down).

I have run the diabolus and the Protapers, and neither compared to the Easton. The Diabolus have a strange rise and feel to them, while the Protapers felt good, but had too much flex (IMO). I have never tried the Truvativ's but they are mostly spec'd OEM on a lot of bikes, which usually means (not always) they are relatively cheap to produce.

As far as carbons .... the last resort to drop some weight. Check the weight of the EA 70 and the carbon bars .... I would be they are almost identical.

Also check : http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/handlebar/

for reviews.

oh and as strange as it sounds, handlebars probably have one of the BIGGEST impacts on your ride .... so choose wisely. Next to a tubeless conversion, I cannot think of an area of change that has such a dramatic effect on how your bike feels.

Oh, and becuase the answer bars have a 10 year warranty...does not mean you should have them on your bike that long...bars and stems should be replaced every two years no matter what.

I know I'll be alone on this but I'm using the FSA carbon DH bars right now. I was wary of carbon but the FSa guys said their carbon bars are fatigue and destruction tested and are stronger than their 400g aluminum bars. Both aluminum and carbon will fail suddenly (as opposed to steel) so I figured I'd give it a shot.

the upside to a carbon bar isn't so much the weight (which is around 200g) but rather the odd combination of massive torsional rigidity and nice vibration damping. Wow, I almost sound like I'm not talking out my ass

oh yeah, also check the bents and widths, make sure they feel just right

Well, after some carefull consideration I decided on Deity bars. They seemed to feel the best to me. Plus they are a little different. We'll see how they are after I am able to get back on the bike in a couple weeks.

Easton EA70, without a doubt..

one of the finest bike parts u can buy...

p.s. Carbon parts are fantastic for a racer but not so good of a choice for a freerider...a racer can afford to change up his carbon parts after a nasty spill a freerider is more likely to wanna keep using them until they faill..
