View Full Version : Can you rent a bike like this in Whistler

I rented this bike (see photo) when I rode NorthStar last year at Lake Tahoe in the US. I think it was something like $85/day (USD). But anyhow, I'm wondering if I can rent something like this in Whistler when I get there in August?
It looks like the park bikes are single crown and more like 'all mountain' bikes then DH bikes. I'm not going to be jumping in the bone yard, just ripping Garbo and all the others trails (probably) besides A-Line. So I'm looking for more of a solid DH bike.
I tried looking online at the bike store rigs and I wasn't seeing much. Let me know what's up there please.
Oh, and if the picture doesn't show up, it's 2005 Santa Cruz V10 with Fox 40 Dual crown fork and the works.

I don't know anyone in town renting V10s, and that shop you did rent it from must have alot of dough to rent that thing out, you can get Demo 9's from Evolution, Norco Alines and Shores from Fanatyko, Kona Stinky's from the mountain, and RMX's from Summit, lots of quality for your buck......nice rental though....

Some advice, get there pretty early in the morning as the good bikes go pretty fast on the weekends.
Have fun!

Yeah, I don't think the Mountain's rental bikes are that good, but they are still pretty nice. But definitely rent one as early as possible, as was said, the good ones go fast. I've seen some people with rental bikes a bit into the season that are practically falling apart.

The Whistler rental bikes look PIMP!
I'm sure they can compare in some form to that V10 in terms of being able to go fast, except for the fact that they're Konas...

Cool. thanks for the good info guys. Yea that bike shop in Tahoe was great. You choice of 2005 V10 or VPFree.
Anyhow, so all of the bikes up there are first come, first serve eh? In Tahoe I reserved mine a few months in advance. I was hoping for a setup like that up there, but if that's not how it works, so be it.
Anyone know where I can get the numbers for the bike shops up there on the web? In the states I use yp.yahoo.com but I wasn't sure what's best up there.
Thanks again!
Ben

First: All of the Whistler rental bikes have 170mm 888RC2X forks (I have never seen a single crown fork on a rental bike)
Second: You can rent a Stab Garbonzo (Stab Supreme) for about $100can.
Third: Damn, I have to go to Northstar if they rent bikes like that!

Looked at Evolution's website, and $100 for the V-10 is a great deal! Doesn't it cost about $90 to rent a stinky from the bike park for a day? My brother's dream is to ride a V-10, he may just have that chance now.

Really? I went up about 5 times last year, and I didn't see a single whistler rental bike with a 66.

Some have 66, but most have 888. Nothing wrong with a 66 for smaller and lighter people. All of the shops in town have quality bikes for rent. Take your pic and have fun. At Glacier rentals, you can get a guide for only $10 more. Good idea if you have not riden here before and have no one to show you around. Talk to people and they will show you around. The locs are prety friendly. Have fun.

Thanks again for all the info.
Yea, I saw picks of the "Bike Park" rental bikes from last year and now this year and the ones this year look to be more setup for freeride/boneyard/aline, etc. as opposed to pure DHing. Which makes sense. Just not for me.
I'll check out Evolution since that looks like the way to go.

Oh by the way Air Supplier. Northstar is closed for the 2006 season because they're building a new resort/hotel at mid-mountain (or something like that). They supposed to be open in 2007 with a much improved bike park experience.
Just some info.
