Does anybody know the scoop on this year's TdF coverage here in Canada? The OLN Canada site doesn't give any indication of this year's coverage, although they recently added a few news updates to their TdF section.

I've sent out e-mails to both OLN Canada and Canal Evasion, so we'll see what they have to say.

Looks like we'll be getting the full TDF coverage this year. (Breathes sigh of relief.)

Preview show and summary of 2001-2005 starts June 30 on OLN Canada at 5:00 pm.

Now if I could figure out how to record it for a week straight while I'm on vacation, i'd be set.

just as long as it doens't cut into OLN's coverage of strongman, lumberjack and fishing. What a fucking shame that would be. I never thought that a channel could be completly spammed with the programming equivalent of a baseball player that keeps stepping away from the plate, spitting, waving the bat and adjusting his nuts.

This is for you, Diggs:

Thing is, I give him a very good chance. Put him up against Basso with as good a team as Il Terribile, and his chances would be better, though. T-Mobile is a good team, but I think CSC is better for a grand tour.

I still think Discovery might be in the hunt..... They are the masters of De Tour tactic's

Tactics are huge but ya gotta have the rider, too, and I think they're in a transition year, meaning a top 5 would be good for them.

Nice vid, .nl addy. Means it`s from the Netherlands, which have always had issues with us krauts. If I am not mistaken, Holland is below sea level, the Fatherland above. You know what they say about shit...

Looks like Vino will be looking for a new team, if he gets picked up by the right team in time, that would add some interest.

I don't think it's possible in that short of a time frame. Court of Arbitration for Sport will hand down its decision on Friday, and the Tour starts on Saturday.

Vino should have jumped ship the second that Liberty bailed out on the team.

other than watching it on tv for the first stages my viewing schedule looks something like this :)

Stage 15 - Alpe du Huez
Stage 16 - Col Du Galibier (but I watch it here last year so might go to the Col de la Croix de Fer)
Stage 17 - Col des Aravis

Sorry Digs, but Ullrich (and Sevilla) have just been suspened by their team and are out of the Tour.

The Tour organizers are also set to boot Vino's team, and Basso may be booted along with nearly 20 other riders due to having been implicated in the Spanish doping affair. No Discovery riders are on the list.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2006/jun06/jun30news2

The full list of implicated riders:

Astaná-Würth: Michele Scarponi, Marcos Serrano, David Etxebarria, Joseba Beloki, Angel Vicioso, Isidro Nozal, Unai Osa, Jörg Jaksche

CSC: Ivan Basso

Caisse d'Epargne-Illes Balears: Constantino Zaballa

Saunier Duval: Carlos Zarate

AG2R: Francisco Mancebo

T-Mobile: Jan Ullrich, Oscar Sevilla

Phonak: Jose Enrique Gutierrez, Jose Ignacio Gutierrez

Comunidad Valenciana: Vicente Ballester, David Bernabeu, David Blanco Rodriguez, Jose Adrian Bonillla, Juan Gomis Lopez, Eladio Jimenez, David Latasa, Javier Pascual, Ruben Plaza, J.Luis M. Jimenez

Unibet.Com: Carlos Garcia Quesada

Retired/suspended riders: Roberto Heras, Angel Casero, Santiago Perez, Tyler Hamilton

They're saying that the excluded riders will not be replaced with substitute riders.

That makes Discovery and Phonak the two strongest teams running at full strength. Gerolsteiner will also be at full strength. Landis (or Levi) could win this thing yet.

Well, well look who's gonna be in the hunt.

Team Disco is back....

Team Disco is back....

In some ways, I think Team Disco is in the driver's seat. Team CSC and T-Mobile, without their respective leaders, will look to Disco to control the peloton. Plus Disco can send any of four GC guys (Hincapie, Popo, Savoldelli, Azevedo) in early breaks or attacks to force other teams to chase.

Also, I noticed that Canal Evasion is showing TDF coverage. I haven't compared the two feeds, but the Canal Evasion signal is much better as it's being carried on a digital channel.

Levi - overall
Cadel Evans, 2nd. Go mountain biker!
Landis, Hincapie will be up there.

This is going to be a very exciting tour.

Valverde pulled a Hamilton in Stage 3 today and is now out of the race with a broken collarbone. Reports say that he fell after touching wheels with a teammate.

Can you say, "all-American top 3"?

(Warning: Ugly crash pic!) The aftermath of Dekker's crash (http://www.eurosport.com/cycling/sport_sto919835.shtml) today looks terrible. Good thing helmets are mandatory these days. Tough luck for Valverde. But unlike Dekker, he'll be back for next year.

Good win for Kessler and T-Mobile (http://www.eurosport.com/cycling/tour-de-france/2006/sport_sto919812.shtml) today though. The photos of Kessler (http://www.velonews.com/tour2006/details/articles/10237.0.html) crossing the line with his arms raised are classic.

I'm loving Eurosport's 'net coverage of the event too. Way more polished than CyclingNews, esp. the live updates...

Sh*t, the Dekker link deserves a warning.

Check out the recap of today's stage (http://www.eurosport.com/cycling/tour-de-france/2006/livefullpage_mtc129662.shtml) to get an idea. I think you can pick up a live audio feed as well.

Sorry about the lack of warning on the Dekker link. I thought about adding one but was distracted, and then forgot all about it. I edited that post. VeloNews reports that Dekker's injuries included facial lacerations and fractured teeth. Ouch, what a terrible way to fall...

"Apparently, the duel over winning the jersey for the best mountain climber may be more intense than expected. The two who got it on yesterday were Walter Bénéteau of Bouygues Telecom, whose teammate Jêrome Pineau is leading the mountains classification and Saunier Duval's David de la Fuente, who is second in the rankings. The two mixed it up previously, being fined for "irregular behaviour" on Wednesday.

Writing on www.sports1.de, CSC's Jens Voigt described the scene this way: "The two were riding next to each other and all of a sudden, the Spaniard hits Bénéteau full in the face! It was really loud, just like in a boxing match! Bénéteau's helmet and glasses practically flew off his head! He swerved, because of course he hadn't been expecting anything like that."

"Behind them everyone was shouting, 'Hey, are you crazy? If you're going to fight, go to the side of the road! Leave us out of your problems!' Bénéteau didn't blink an eye but went directly to the commissaire. I think that they will throw de la Fuente out of the race." "
