Rowe's shot is cool but the colors are a bit fresh indeed, maybe of exposure, maybe of photo shop. Looks cool in some ways, maybe here too.
Nevertheless cool gap, even cooler without the bottle...

I like Reid's shot. The darkness, the forest, the little haze, the eye-catchin' red dot. This shot makes me getting more North Shore galore, even though I'm not going as huge as he does, but the thought of the Shore with all the trails and the mud and the dust and the slipperiness and the passion, the trails are built, maintained and ridden with, makes me excited. This pic generates this feeling in sceonds.

I like Kaleb's shot. The sun reflecting on the helmet and on flora makes this very stunning setup. I also like, that he tried to go along with the advices he got on previous shots, and put them all together in on shot.

And I like Christian's shot.
Simply, it's the scenery. There aren't many colors but looking at the mountains it seems to be kind a harsh, dry area, which makes it impressive. The shot makes me think of an upbeat trail winding along the ridge, through valleys, upon mountaintops and somewhen heading on some kickers finally catching some air. Marvellous!

So, tough decision!

my criticism of Reids photo was actually that the colours seem to actually lack depth. Basically, it looks flat. The rider actually stands out too much in my oppinion, with the flash and red hoodie it lacks cohesion.

Using photoshop to manipulate the appearance of a photo is within the rules and a pretty common thing in magazines. I personally don't see it as a problem within the confines of this contest, but I do agree that in some instances keepin it real is good too.

thats the whole point of using flash and a red shirt was to really make the rider aswell as the ladder and trany stand out against the dark and damp rainforest scene. as Reid stated he wanted to emphasize the whole shore look while capturing the freeride elemnt. i think he has captured this perfectly. the point of this photo is to capture the viewers attention to the trick sequence right away and have the whole shore scene, (forest), gently create and ease in the whole spirit of North Shore riding.

oh and no one is against Kaleb using photoshop....its just that the image is either highly over-processed or simply over exposed or just taken a bit before th "golden hour" making the photo way to bright and flat.

kalebs looks a little over sharpened, witch would usually happen if the image was slighty outta focus. both are rad pics but mike gets my vote

ya 4:00 was probably the best time i could have shot this. it was raining all morning and the sun peaked out and the wind started to die around 3:30...at like 4:45 it started blowing and pissin down rain...i wanted to get the shot around 8:30. would have been epic. o well. thanx again guys!

Well if it is digi, which it kinda looks like, then that just kills the shot. Cropping a digital shot square and then putting a MF border on it... give me a fucking break, if you want the film look, then shoot film. That kinda photoshop bullshit is killing photography, but i guess we can just call it fucking "digital-art" now. Im no fan of the extreame oversharpening on Kalebs shot either.

A sloping top border might suggest he didn't rotate it after scanning it in. The corners of my MF scans look the same. Plus there's no exif info, which usually suggests a scan. I guess I'll just ask him.

The rider on Stephen's shot is to flashed out for me, although the setting is great.
Mikes shot does not overflash the rider, but still has to much flash for me.
Christian's shot is taken from a strange corner. I think it would have worked better if the rider tabletoped to the other side?
Kaleb has a very good composition, the rider tricks it right and the dust gives the shot something extra.

And I wish I had such landscapes and riders as al you guys have in my neighbourhood (the netherlands is so flat, our highest peak is 321m above sealevel, and so overbuild with houses and roads).

Im not impressed with any of the four photos...I think each photographer could of done much better... some wierd flash burning going on in Stephen's photo. Mikes photo is good but theres somthing flawed about it. composition? colors?. I think Christians photo has too much sky. a more zoomed shot might have worked better and Kaleb's photo is deff money, but the over sharpening ruins it for me.
