Ok, I have a problem with my hands getting rubbed raw after a day of downhilling. I have tried several different gloves and even tried tapeing my hands, but the tape falls off after one run. I get blisters on my palms right at the base of my thumb and it makes multi-day downhilling a bitch.
Anyone have any good suggestions for curing this? Tighter gloves? Looser gloves?
So, I know this opens me up to maaannnnnyyyyy masturbation jokes but I figure you guys are mature enough to stay away from that.

Cheers
Scott

Get a better suspension fork. I used to ride a beat up Sherman and my hands were so terribly sore I thought I had caused permanent damage to my tendons/nerves/something. On the first run of a day my hands would feel as bad as they did on the last run of the previous day. Now I run a 888 and I can ride all day every day and my hands never get sore or tired.

Not saying Marz>Manitou or anything just giving you my example. A "better" fork will help you, no matter what the brand.

Same here, get some nice and soft grips, or
go do some trailbuilding and get some calluses.

I might try this, but the thought of ripping most of the skin off my plams in a crash kinda concerns me.

Guess I will just have to suck it up.

Interesting since I am riding an 04 Sherman................ I have been thinking about getting a 888 or 66, maybe this is just the excuse I need :cow:

I agree with the fork upgrade. I used to rock a hardtail Brodie up there with Dirt Jumeper II's and my hands got chewed. Now that I'm rocking the Monster T's up front and have some plush in the back I don't have any issues anymore. Made a world of difference.

im too chicken to ride anything serious without gloves, but i always dirtjump without gloves and i dont get sore hands. as for the hand fatigue in tendons, if you have that problem, big squishy grips helps.

Mike, don't let me forget your grips.

Yeah, bigger grips like ODI Rogues as opposed to ruffians should help, also the brake lever tips works wonders, if possible use a one finger brake lever positioning with it fairly close (you can only run the lever this close if its moved inwards so you dont squish your non-braking fingers).

I had a lot of finger fatigue when I was riding a Junior T and I also had the brake levers pushed right to the grips. I moved the levers in and upgraded to a 66RC, and problem solved. Not sure which change contributed more, but moving the levers in definately helped a lot.

move your levers in

Its not a matter of hand fatigue, its that my hands get chafed and blistered....

try lubing em up with some vaseline or hand cream inside your gloves so you dont lose your grip this will reduce blister causing friction by a bit

ride no gloves and dont grip the bars super hard. it doesnt matter what fork you have nessisarly, as long as you dont grip the bars super hard. im missing 3 fingers i never ever get blisters from riding, ive been riding a dirt jumper and a flick on and off for a while.

I get terrible blisters if I run a thin grip, because my hand's too big for it.

I like a big, fat, softish but firm grip. It helps tonnes.

I agree.... I went from Jr T to a Shiver and have never had sore hands again.
Also try not to death grip your bars just relax a little and hold on tighter when you need to. There are lots of coasting areas that you can relax from the white knuckling.

try lizard skins north shore grips, they are thick, soft, and have a larger diameter. I use them in conjunction with a monster t, and it's quite comfy on the hands.

Yeah loosen up, I have only three spots that have callouses, at the base of each finger except for the index which is always on the lever, SixSixOne Raji which uses the Mechanix tactilite which is super grippy with Intense lockons, and of course a bigger smoother fork like any thing 8", its gonna feel good.......
